g'day all,

i picked up this book the other day while i was "frivolling".
frivolling is like S.E.X. with no sense of direction. 8-)
& there's a great article on the subject in the latest "Textile
Fibre Forum" magazine. some other aussie stitchers out me onto
this mag & it's great!
anyway back to the book...

Needlepoint - A Foundation Course by Sandra Hardy is a wonderful
book. perfect for needlepoint beginners like me. it takes you
through all the why's & wherefores before you start stitching.
it also describes each stitch in detail, explaining advantages &
disadvantages of each stitch in including strength, finished look
& coverage.
it uses large easy diagrams & has a small project for each stitch
to get you comfortable. there are larger projects in the book
in later chapters where beadwork, tramming, shading, decorative
stitches, petit point, waste canvas, space dying canvas & designing
are covered. there is also an excellent section on finishing.

the charts in the book are black & white & reasonably clear.
large margins are used & the book has a "lay flat" soft cover,
so you can easily view the charts. not like some books where
the charts disappear up the middle of the spine.
there is a note in the front saying it's ok to photocopy
charts from the book as stitcher's aides.
