Hi Mirjam -

Sounds like a very fun piece. Was this one of your designs?
Do you have a website you're going to scan it to? Glad you're
happy with the final product.

I think a happy dance is in order!

Congratulations!

Eva in EXTREMELY Wet Kent, WA (It rained all day yesterday,
too)

Mirjam, this is a beautiful exhibit. Did you stitch each of the pieces
yourself in Fabric Remembered?

Thank you ROXANA !
NO , I did not , If you look carefully again this was A group
exhibition, which I curated [ there should be my words as curator ]
and Also hung my own work .
My work was the Album , which usualy is kept as album, but while on
display the Album`s cover , becomes the Head of a `memorial colum.`
I have inherited small embroidereed xst works, doilies both
embroidered and crocheted , Several of whom were made by Aunts and
Grandmamas who were murdered In the Holocaust . From Both My husband`s
family as Mine. I put every `work` on acloth page , [ pink for my
family , light blue for husband`s family ] and tried to find
information about those Women , on each page I embroidered Her name ,
her birth place and date , and Her Last place/ date , if I could find
it . I also included some of my stuff , embroidered pieces I did for
my kids , An emblem a Solidier of The` Jewish brigade` gave me as a
child refugee , My army tag , Monograms I found Now, wonder Upon
wonder in folds of tablecloths we have used all our life. some from
the GM I never met.
The Tablecloth made By Sophie Cohen- Kleermaker , was My Oma [
praternal Gm] Truosseau piece , [ the orderly first layer, after she
`graduated` survived Threseinstadt , she came back , got it back from
a neighbour , first mended it and than when people started to sign
their names on it she embroidered it, and this second layer , spread
and shattered as her life ,,,, The combination of those 2 layers made
it art ,,,
Haya Ran , [ works Lie quietly , and the Aprons and the portraits , is
really a known painter , she was painting my picture from a childhood
photo , when her mother died and since I told her about My exhibition
idea , she felt that she could deal with loosing her mother by using
textiles she inherited.
Haim Maor, a famous painter, Critic , founder of the Isreali Art Mag
Studio, lecture of art ,, many international prizes, was The critic of
My first Solo , after which we became friends and colleagues, he
painted one work on an inherited family Xst , by this converting a
usual daily kit work into a very special meaning , His Model Sana ,,
FLOATS over the celelbrating people like the spirit of Ophelia ,,
hinting at the coming disaster, His Other work , He embroidered FAMILY
Titles [ i.e. Mother father Grand mother aunt brother inlaw ], IN
YIDDISH over bought ready made tapestry, and framed it in the shape of
A family tree ....
Avishay Eyal , painter Teacher in University art Dept, curator
converted inherited tablecloth into a map of Germany where names of
cities became names of Jewish women , while on other he printed /drew
some German Children`s poems , and built a TEA tray with objects.
Oli Grausz A well known artist in Israel and Rumania Built Objects To
memoirise her grand partents , The grave stone with the Buttons , the
altar with the Handkerchiefs , and OMA where Oma`s removable lace
Collar became A Wreath of memory.
It was A great Honor and pleasure to curate this exhibition. Many
people came out with tears , many said i took them back to their
childhood of the lost world .
over 15ooo peoplle entered this site , and on Holocaust memorial day i
got many letters.
I hope this answers your question ,

Mirjam,
The album is beautiful. Please let us know when we can see pictures of
your solo exhibit in October. I'm looking forward to seeing what I've been
hearing about for so long.
