Okay Ladies -

I am, for once in my life, going overseas!!! This is the trip of a lifetime
and I'm looking forward to it greatly!!! (Keep your fingers crossed that it
doesn't fall through at the last minute!)

I'm flying into Rome, will travel to Pisa and Florence as well -
soooooooooooo, does anyone have any suggestions of needlework shops I might
be able to find while over there??? :-)

Hi Carrie:

I just returned from Italy 2 weeks ago! Didn't make it to Rome, but we
were in Pisa, Florence and Venice. Have a blast and drink a cappuccino
in a sidewalk cafe for me!

Regarding needlework shops, since I ran out of several colors of floss
while I was there, I searched high and low in Venice and found
nothing. Of course, I was in the main city instead of outlying areas,
which made a big difference. Most stores in the main towns (I'll
assume Florence is the same) ply tourist items; venetian glass,
leather, etc., not the necessities like needlework supplies. All that
to say, when you do look, look in smaller towns clustered around the
big tourist areas. You may have better luck.

Ciao!

Christiane

I found a wonderful bead shop in Venice, on the island where they make
the beads - Murano, I think? which reminds me, I need to use them!
Check out Stefania's page at
http://web.tiscalinet.it/angolostefania/index_e.htm for very important
terms in Italian!

Hello Carrie, welcome in Italy, in advance! :-)
In Rome there are some shops very beautiful. The Mondo di Pezza, the Emporio
di Alice, the Arca di Noe'....
You can find this sites on my website if you click on "Tips&links" or
"Consigli&link" on italian version. The Arca di Noe' has not the site, but I
have requested the address to my fiends and the addresses of shops in Pisa
and in Florence as well for you, OK? If you can to wait...:-)

Ciao Rita V (Italy)

Hi, I'm here! ;-)
(lurking mode off)
The English version of my site is rather poor, and many sections are
still missing, but if you look at
http://web.tiscalinet.it/angolostefania/glo_rica.htm
you should be able to find some italian terms.
If you should need some help for any particular term, I can try to
help.

As for the shops in Rome, there's some:

Il Mondo di Pezza
Via Tommaso Arcidiacono, 109
00143 ROMA - ITALY
http://www.patchwork.it
The owner, Emanuela d'Amico, is a very kind person. The shop is mainly
devoted to patchwork, but has a good selection of cross stitch
supplies, too. She shouldn't have any problem with spoken English.

L'Emporio di Alice
Via Bellinzona 25
http://emporiodialice.pcupdate.easyspace.com/

Spizzichino
Via Alessandria
(needlework and knitting)

Rinaldi
Via Candia
http://www.decoricamo.com/
(embroidery, patchwork, crafts)

Sermoneta
Via dei Falegnami

Bye, Stefania

Carrie, I've been fortunate to travel to many European countries. There
are a wealth of shops as many more women still like to needlwork.
Here's what I do and it rarely fails me. With a piece of unfinished
needlepoint in hand I ask a likely woman who happens to be near where I
can find a needlework shop. restaurants, on the metro, etc. Most will
be glad to point you to their favorite shop. The language barrier soon
flies away when the person discovers what I'm asking. As a matter of
fact I have had more that one person personally escort me to the shop.
The shop owners are more that happy to help and some are astonished
that someone from the US actually likes to pick up a needle
anymore.Have fun and I'll bet you make a new friend or 2 this way.
