Hmmmm, have just got back from my LNS , where I went to purchase the DMC threads
that are meant to be discontinuing. When I asked the owner about this he told me
I was wrong and that their DMC rep had been in this week and told them they
were adding the new colours but the only ones to go were the full range of
variegated threads.
I told him where I'd got this information - (this newsgroup), and he told me
he'd phone DMC on Monday to check this out.
It just seems strange to me that DMC would tell this shop one thing while
telling others another.

Yes, this is quite a mystery. The thing that bothers me, and makes me
think it's true, is that (with one exception) the colors that are
rumored to be discontinued are almost exact matches for the colors they
suggest substituting. Makes me wonder why DMC produced virtually
duplicate colors to start with. But since that's the case, I can
understand that DMC may have decided to eliminate dupliate shades.

The one exception in my opinion and evidently the opinions of others
who've posted here, is 504, which looks to me a *lot* lighter than the
color they suggest using in its place.

So I went to a local craft store yesterday to stock up. I bought 3
each of the discontinued colors, except for that bright orange, which I
doubt I'd ever use--so I bought two of that one! ;-) And of course, I
bought ten of 504! There was plenty of each color, including lots more
504 in the bin after I was done.

One thing to remember, though, is that not all stitchers are fortunate
enough to have access to computers and Usenet newsgroups. Which may be
one explanation for the fact that, two months before the event is
rumored to be taking place, the word hasn't yet gotten out to the
computer-deprived stitching masses.

We are so lucky to have each other!

According to the list we've been referring to, only *some* of the variegated
are being discontinued. The ones they're supposedly keeping are colors I would
use, so if all of the variegated are being discontinued, I foresee a huge
American Needlewoman order in my future!

I went to my local Joanne's today to buy the colors that are to be discontinued.

The store was a mess, especially the cross stitch isle. Thread all over the place.

However, they did have the colors I was looking for. Also, I was the only one
there.
