I was stupid yesterday. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Our homeowners' association
held the semi-annual garage sale. I was unprepared to handle a big deal,
but figured I could unload the big Little Tikes toys that never get put
away. I expected to be sold out in 20 minutes. HAH! Anyway, it was
chilly and I moved my chair into the sun as I waited for someone to
pounce upon my treasures. (That 20 minutes turned into three hours.
<sigh>) Last night I realized that I've sunburnt my legs from mid-thigh
to ankle. My own fault. I know better. Finally I come to the aloe
question.
Does aloe gel have an expiration date? I've got to big honkin' bottles
of aloe vera gel but they're both quite aged -like at least six years
old and probably older- so I wonder whether the aloe has lost its
potency. I'm using it anyway, but was curious.

It does lose some of its potency but as long as it is still a gel it will
keep your skin hydrated enough to heal.
Look for Panama Jack After Sun Burn Relief. It is aloe with lidocaine and
relieves the pain of a sunburn while the burn heals. It works wonders on
kitchen burns and mosquito bites. I discovered it when I got a bad burn on
my face in Florida a few years back and since then we've been buying bottles
for the whole family. It also has a nice minty scent to it.
I can try to find the site for it again but it should come up with a regular
search.
Hope you feel better soon,

I've found that Baby Magic lotion works great. I am fair and get my annual
bad sunburn. Aloe seems to sting when I use it, but the Baby Magic doesn't.

What stings is the alcohol in the lotion - it is very difficult to find any
without any alcohol although the amount does vary. When I got frostbite and
had bad peeling the hospital pharmacist made some lotion up for me with no
alcohol. When I used to get sunburn my first day(s) of lifeguarding I used
cold cream. It actually speed the healing.

Hey Guys,
Why not just plant some sloe and then when you have a burn of any kind you
go out, cut off a piece of sloe and wipe it on your burn!!! The stuff grows
like weeds in Lizard Land but it can be grown anywhere if it is kept out of the
really cold weather. The "sap" from the aloe is very cool but does shrink sort
of when it dries. And did you know that you can ingest aloe? My Mom used to
mix aloe juice with some other wierd stuff and drink it -- PLEASE don't ask me
what for -- I don't think I want to remember -- LOLOLOL! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I buy pure aloe gel from the health-food store and keep it in the refrigerator
-- it feels doubly cool and good on sunburn, burns and other boo-boos. I also
use it on one of my cats who has skin allergies -- she purrs, head-bumps and
smiles when I put it on her, so I know it must feel good.

And -- I drink pure aloe juice often. It's not only refreshing (you get used
to the slightly grassy, herbal taste) but it helps heartburn, dyspepsia and
other stomach ailments. It's also very good for ulcers, I hear, but you have
to drink some every day.
