I picked up my copy of The Proper Stitch today, got my raw linen, picked
the DMC colors suggested by Phoebe.

Then I made some changes to come up with a combination that was pleasing
to my eye.

Floss Phoebe"s My
Kreinik Soie d Alger DMC DMC
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------
1745 926 3768
1746 930 924
1834 320 320
1835 367 367
1836 890 890
3712 822 or 369 **
2911 3774 225
4231 Ecru *
4234 437 437
4621 224 224
4623 221 221

The Star * is because I picked 822 or 3782 instead of Ecru, and haven't
decided yet which one I will use. The pictures in the book are unclear:
Should this color match the linen color exactly or be a contrast to it?

I wasn't able to compare the actual Soie d Alger color with the linen, so
I'd like the advice of someone who has the silk threads and the raw linen.
Is the Ecru color the same color as the linen or not?

ARGH! The ** above is because I don't seem to have gotten that color at
all! Oh well, back to the store.

Can't wait to get started!

No, the ecru is NOT the same as the linen, at least on mine. I was very
confused when I bought the linen, because the cover of the book makes it
appear the exact same color. It looks great anyway!!

I have just checked Phoebe's list against my copy of The Proper Stitch -
I DO NOT have 3712 listed but I DO have 2131 (light gold). However 2131
is NOT listed in the copy of Fiber Fantasy I have borrowed ( but 3712
is, and listed as light grey green). Eeeeeeeeek! Help! Can I go home now
- I don't like this game :-(

I need urgent advice as someone is going to order the silks for me.
Thanks,
Rosemary

When I ordered my silks, Lesa said that 2131 was not available and Krienik's
suggested sub was 3712. Sorry for the confusion. That was supposed to have
made it into the post. Phoebe

My local shop had the 2131 -- but it wasn't from Kreinik, it was Au Ver a
Soie. (I don't want to start the thread about Kreinik/Au Ver a Soie all
over again, but what I remember is that Kreinik sold Soie D'Alger under
their own name, while it is made by Au Ver a Soie. And as sold by Au Ver
a Soie, there are a lot more colors available.) It was more expensive,
although there was more in the skein that almost made up for the price
increase. It's a very pale gold with a slight yellow-green tinge to it.
