Haven't been getting any more than usual, Marci. I don't keep track of
how many but there are a few every day; I just trash 'em unopened.

Only on my AOL account. On the epix account, which is the one I use all
the time (I rarely post or e mail anyting on AOL) I may get a piece of
spam every week. Some weeks nothing.
I mainly have AOL to talk to friends and step kids and for talking to
some business associates from time to time.
I get about 10 to 15 pieces of junk a day on AOL.

I don't have an anti-spam return address, and I post once in a while to both
rctn and rctq, but I haven't been getting any spam. (I hope this is not a
case of 'famous last words'). Guess I've just been lucky . . .wish my luck
would shift over to the lotteries, though.

Lula (and Marci) - I have the same thing happen. I have an AOL
account strictly for back-up and I get nothing but junk mail there.
And I don't even post from it and I've deleted my member's profile.

I am really getting fed up with all the spam mail. Some weeks there
is more than others, but it is very annoying. I don't respond to it -
all of it goes to trash. A lot of it is probably porno - that which
isn't one of those "get rich quick schemes" or diet wonders. They
are about as obnoxious as telemarketers and I have become downright
ugly to most of them. It gives me great satisfaction!!! (big grin)

I also am very vigilant against spammers and really enjoy seeing them
cancelled. I always forward the spams to their ISP. Netcom does indeed
have policies against abuse, although I don't know how strict they are.
ab...@netcom.com is the address to send complaints to. The following is
taken from the auto-response you get back from that address.

a couple of weeks ago and Netcom terminated the user's account due to my

Hmmmmm. I was with Netcom for awhile and they did have policies about
netabuse. Not only that, but I've complained to Netcom about spammers
-- to the ab...@netcom.com address -- and found that the spammers almost
immediately disappear.
Maybe there's a difference between how Netcom feels about outside
control versus self-policing.

Not only do *I* get spammed to death on AOL (more than 20 a day), my
youngest daughter (12) has been getting nasty spam. She doesn't post to any
of the NG, she rarely participates in the chat rooms...mostly, she just
e-mails pen-pals...so where did they pick up her address? The only thing I
can think of is, I posted it here for Robyn. Any answers to this one??

You're preaching to the choir as far as I'm concerned...I started hanging out
on the news.admin.net-abuse.* groups because I was sick of spam and wanted to
find out how to combat it. I've got both Sendmail and Procmail set up for
various spam-sifting methods...they bounce 8-10 messages per week (oddly
enough the amount went down after Sendmail started rejecting them; it used to
be over 20).
I'm not one of the "just-delete-it" folks--I want someone to KNOW that their
crap is unwelcome here. At once point I thought one of those e-mail pager
systems would be neat, but can you imagine the cost you'd wind up with if the
pager address got on a spammer list?

I received an email from the Director of Customer Support at Bigfoot.com
tonight telling me that they had removed someone using their url as a jump off
spot for spam. It's nice to know that once in a while we actually win one.

I've noticed this too. I posted a bid to E-Bay on Monday and today I've got
Spam on that account which never has been spammed before. E-Bay's fun, but if
this is the result, that's it for me.

You start out by hanging out on the news.admin.net-abuse.* news groups
(in my case, I spend the most time on n.a.n-a.email), and learn from the
masters. There's a great bunch of anti-spammers there who will help you
learn to read headers, figure out forged headers (I'm still working on
learning this), point you in the right direction, etc. You will learn
who to complain to (and who NOT to), that responding to remove lists
will NOT get you removed, but will most likely confirm that your address
is a valid one (which means even more spam)....you get the picture. Try

Browse through the top, and scroll down to the bottom, where it has
links to some excellent articles and spam-tracking lessons by Bill

Yes, very true. But they are also extremely pliable at this age, and it is
easiest to catch one and set up it's training when they're at this stage
in their lives. Important, especially since the training often stretches
out for years.

We have been receiving several unwanted messages every day since I first
started reading RCTN. BUT, as of 3 days ago, not too long after this thread
began, the count has gone down to 0 or 1 a day. I'm certainly not
complaining, it just seems odd. Perhaps the letters some of you have sent to
stop this has done some good for all of us..... or is this just too good to be
true? The ones I really get mad about are the ones that say this is in
response to your post, and I don't know it's not until I take the time to
