Thanks!

I惴 afraid I don愒 know much about that region. In Berlin there are basically no
LNS愀. I know that Karstadt sells Anchor thread (and the entire range I think) as
well as a few basic design books (bookmark, tablecloth kind of stuff). It also has
a reasonable range of beads (Gutterman I think) if you want those for things like
stumpwork or larger beading projects. You can also get some fabrics to stitch on
although the range is extremely limited and its none of the nice linen. Wertheim
is exactly the same while Hertie has an even more limited selection. KaDeWe here
in Berlin has a little more in terms of fabric and you can get linen.
I扉e found one shop here that sells a limited DMC range (for anyone else in Berlin
whose looking it愀 a shop next to S-Bahn station Zehlendorf).
Expect to pay 1Euro per skein of thread and the DMC I found was more expensive.
There are a few Germans here who should hopefully be able to supply more info. Oh,
a word of advice: if you look up the GelbeSeiten, look for Handarbeiten, not
Handwerk (!!!big mistake that I made when I first got here) or Sticken.
I惻l also tag on a request. I惻l be in Marburg in 2 weeks time, so if anyone knows
a LNS there I悲 be highly appreciative!
Good luck and let me know if you find anything!

Otherwise, you could do a websearch -- the German words are Kreuzstich (XS) and
Sticken (general embroidery). Most Germans of the post WW2 generation do speak
English, so don't hesitate to e-mail them in English with any questions. And,
of course, Babelfish at altavista.com will give you a rough translation of any
webpage.

im german and im living in K-Town. Unfortunately Germany is a
cross-stitch dessert. In the city we have three sources for needlework
supplies, but they dont carry a big choice of materials. Only standard
threads and fabric. As far as a know they all carry Anchor floss. Here
are the adresses:
Karstadt
Fackerondell
Raab Gertrud
Wolle Handarbeiten
Riesenstr. 12
67655 Kaiserslautern
phone: (06 31) 9 23 75
Wolle und Handarbeiten
Kowalski Heidelore
67655 Kaiserslautern
Eisenbahnstr. 17
phone: (06 31) 6 98 45
Karstadt has the whole range of floss, hoops, some uninteresting kits.
Dont know if they carry stitching fabric anymore.
The other two shops are mainly wool suppliers, but both carry fabric and
standards threads. At Mrs. Raabs shop I bought Lugana in cream. She also
had the Four Seasons of Marjolein Bastin (Lanarte) in her window. But
this is an exception, I think. Never asked her if she could order other
kits.
In Germany, you will hardly find some leaflets. It is more common to
work from kits or from magazines (Lena or Anna).
It may be a good idea to look in the US shops in the KMC. A friend of
mine bought there a Janlynn kit. I dont know what materials else they
suppliy, but its worth a try, I think.
I have made good experiences with mail order via Internet. I ordered
from:
http://www.sticknadel.de
http://www.cross-stitch-corner.de
http://www.monika-arnold.com
They all carry DMC floss and Kreinik. They also have leaflets. If
something is not listed, ask them. They can get nearly everything in the
whole wide world.
Last one may be interesting for you, because she is located half an hour
from Landstuhl (direction Saarbrücken, near Autobahnkreuz Neuenkirchen
(A6 - A8)):
Monika Arnold
Zum Tauhügel 7 - D-66459 Kirkel
Telefon 06849/1414 - Telefax 06849/787
in...@monika-arnold.com
Never managed to visite her so far. Before visiting, i would recommend
to call her, or email her, because im not sure if she has realy a shop
which can be visited.
All three carry europeen and US designers. Unfortunately the US
designers are very expensive and the floss prices are very high in
relation to the US.
Another source is:
http://www.stitchability.co.uk/
I never ordered from them, but I had a really nice contact with the
person who designed the web site as the start page does not work with my
old Netscape 4.5. They seem to apply the 'customer first' policy.
They have a big choice of designers. They ship without any extra
charges. They state: 'For all kits, charts and canvases the price you
see is the price you pay, No other charges'. But they are also rather
expensive.
Hope that helps.
Best Regards
