Not in NYC proper - no dedicated cross-stitch shops! : ( There are a few
needlepoint shops that carry fibers you might find useful, but no place that
would knock your socks off and make you want to browse for hours in terms of
cross-stitch.
For cross-stitch dedicated shops you have to head to Long Island or New Jersey.
If you'd like info on any of those shops or the needlepoint shops in
Manhattan, please advise. That I can give you info about!

You are so right. I could not believe what I saw yesterday in NJ. It was nice
seeing you again and of course Alison. Hope to see you soon on another
shopping trip.

So, Edith,
What did you see? What did you buy?
Inquiring minds want to know. :)

There is a cross stitch store in NJ that I was taken to. I had not been to a
store where the whole store is devoted to cross stitch. I am not a cross
stitcher but I saw some lovely thread made by Caron. It was so soft to the
touch that I bought some lovely colors and I hope I can use it in the future.
It is 50% silk and 50% wool and was told I can use it in needlepoint. In fact
there was an needlepoint stitcher there that does cross stitch and she had used
this thread. She highly recommended it. It is Caron Collection Impressions.
If you can get to New Jersey, it is in Fords. I cannot tell you how to get
there because I was driven. Hope you can get to it.
Happy Stitching

Edith,
I know The Country Store (in Fords, NJ) and shop there often. I was
interested in what caught your eye because I find it useful to know
what everyone in this group *really* likes. Caron makes wonderful
"stuff"...the kind of floss that makes you want to find a pattern to
use it. Yes, you can use it in needlepoint, but I would use shorter
lengths, so as not to abraid the floss too much against the canvas.
It's sad that there aren't more specialty needlework stores around any
more. It's hard to compete with the "big boys" on price, but there's
nothing like seeing and feeling the floss, wool, silk, and the many
materials out there before buying.
To Edith and all the rest of you who find a great store, thanks so
much for telling us what you find, like, and buy. Since we all can't
buy every magazine and visit every shop, it really helps when we learn
what's new from your visits.
