Hello all! I am new to the news group. I live in Illinois near
Quincy and Springfield. I am looking for anyone that may be in my
area that could help me find a cross stitch shop out side of
Michael's. And I am also looking for anyone that would want to get
together and do a stitching group. Sorta like a ladies night out only
for stitching. :-) Let me know if anyone is interested or in the
area. Thanks.

I am not familiar with Illinois, but after you find a LNS, you may be able to
find other stitcher's through your shop. Here's a link, good luck!

Julie,

You might also look on the Hoffman Distribution page -
www.hoffmandist.com and go to the shop locator and you should find the
different shops. The Barb's index is very very good. We were just over
in Springfield and the shop we liked was Cross That Stitch at 1275
Wabash in the little red schoolhouse building just past the Farmer's
Market before you go around the curve and it becomes McArthur Street.
It was fabulous! :) I know that on Barb's index there were several
other shops over closer to Quincy. Good luck and happy shopping.

I'll have to second that! It's a great shop with knowledgeable and friendly
staff. Tons of models on the walls and an excellent variety in fibers and
fabrics. They also have classes and a small needlework fair in the spring with
a competition, exhibition, and classes.

Depending on how far you are and how much you like to drive, there are also The
Country Sampler in Tuscola, about an hour east of Springfield, and Cross
Stitch Cottage in Normal, about an hour north of Springfield. (CSC is my
not-so-LNS.) Both of these shops also have lots of fabric and fibers and charts
and beads and accessories, as well as friendly staff who know what they're
talking about.

Hi Mirjam. I work with 2 Israeli's and I believe Batya may be from
Haifa. She brought us in honey and apples on Passover and is really a
nice person. Our other person is from Jerusalem, very nice also, but a
Christian, so the sparks sometimes fly between them. It must
be quite an experience living in such an historic country. Do you
have a good lns over there?

Hi Julie,

Just getting caught up on some reading. Welcome to the group. As far as
shops in your area, I know of one at Nauvoo ILcalled Art Needlework Shop.
It advertises DMC floss for 15 cents a skein. Haven't been there yet, hope
to make it in September for the Grape Festival. Also you might try
Catricia's Needles and Brushes in Fort Madison IA. Never been there either
but they were both on my list when I searched for my area and for something
near Quincy when I was traveling last week.
Let me know if you try either place. Hope these help.
Cheers,
Anita, near Galesburg IL
