Hi all - I usually just lurk and read and learn - a lot! :) But now I am
taking a trip to Victoria this summer and, of course, *must* visit
cossstitch shops. Does anyone know of any. I would like to find patterns
of local interest if possible. Last year, I found some great ones in
Savannah, GA. Can't wait for the trip. TIA to all.

Last time I was in there....early March...they had almost none of the
Victoria Sampler patterns and were very vague as to when they might be
getting any in....which I found interesting, since Thea Dueck is a local
talent!
They did have lots of other stuff , though, and a good selection of fabrics.

I would agree with you on the variabiltiy of the service...some of the staff
are very helpful, some distinctly chilly.

I've just gotten home from a trip to Victoria and highly recommend a store
called Button Boutique. It isn't exactly a stitching store, but they carry a
lot of Sampler Threads, Weeks Dye Works threads, Textile Heritage kits (love
those!) and assorted other things. They also have Bent Creek designs, along
with the linen to stitch them - they make sure to have all the supplies for
any pattern they carry. It's a small store, but has lovely things and the
owners are the friendliest people I've ever run across in a stitching store.
They are on Johnson Street, right across from Market Square (the store has a
big, red button for a sign).

There is also a more traditional LNS called Fancyworks, out of downtown a
ways, on Quadra Street. They are okay, but I have the staff to be somewhat
less than helpful every time I've been there (I used to live in Victoria).
If you catch them on a good day, they can also be amazingly patronizing. But
they did have a great selection of Victoria's Sampler patterns and gorgeous
stitched models.

hope you enjoy your trip!
