If you caught my other post earlier today (and managed to read all the way
through it <G>)... you know that I broke down and bought a J&S stand at CATS
this weekend.
I really like this thing... but... I do need to find a nice little lamp for
it.
Currently, I'm using a snake like lamp (it's really weird.. bought it at
Office Max about 4 years ago)... and it wound around the Gazelle I had been
using quite nicely, but it just is too bulky for this lap stand.
The people that make this stand couldn't be nicer.. and they have a cute
little halogen like lamp that they sell. It has a magnifier on it (that I
don't need yet). Well.. as much as I like these folks, I can't justify
popping about $120 for a small little gooseneck clamp on lamp. <G>
I bought the "lap stand" version of their stands. It's quite stable, and I
need a light that can clamp on to it and still extend over my stitching.
Guessing that I need the gooseneck part of the lamp to be at least 12" long.
I want the head of the thing to be small.
I was thinking it wouldn't be hard to find such a lamp at Office Max, Hobby
Lobby or Walmart. Well.. was I wrong. Didn't find anything at any of them!
So... any of you seen any lamp like this around lately?
Any help is always appreciated!

Have you tried a hardware store? One of the big, we sell everything type
places, like Lowe's or Home Depot. That is where I got mine. I have the
floor model of this stand, which I love, so I don't have to worry about
weight, but I got a clamp on, battery powered light for those times when the
power goes out.

Hey Kilmeny....
Nice to hear from you again!!!
How big is the one you're referring to? It really needs to be kind of
small.
Also.. what's a IKEA? What kind of store is that?

Hi again, Rita....
I sure love this stand... thanks again for the nice referral you gave me in
the first place to check these out!
No... haven't tried Home Depot yet. There is one of those and a Lowes
about 15 miles from here... next time I'm anywhere near there, I'll do that.
I just can't thank you enough.... I love this thing!

Um, size.... Well, it's kinda on the 'tall' size, but has a bendy-joint
in the middle which allows you to squoosh it down or stretch it up as
required, and more bendy-joints at the base and where the lamp itself
joins. I guess the long-arm parts are about 18 inches long each, though
the clamp bit would only take up say a 3-inch-cubed area. (I've ended
up using the beasty as an Ott-lite substitute....<G>)
As for IKEA, it's a furniture chain, based in Sweden. The bulk of the
furniture comes very portably packed, and is then assembled at home with
minimal difficulty. It's good solid stuff, very comfortable, and
travels well..... Also, tends to be relatively inexpensive. You can
find them at (surprise!!) http://www.ikea.com/ and then choose your
country of interest off that.

Thanks a bunch, Kilmeny!
I'll try to check out their web site.
What you describe sounds a lot like a few lights I bought at Jo Anns for the
shop's work table. The ones I currently own have relatively large lamp
"shades" (for lack of a better word as I write this at 1:00 a.m. !)... I'm
guessing the ones I have are about 6-8" across the widest part below the
bulb. I really would like to find something that is only about 4" max.
Well.. it's late and I just gotta let my eyes slam shut.
Catch ya later....
