I have recently fallen in love with drawn thread work and am in the process of
buying and working up Linda Driskell's drawn thread samplers. My question.....
Are there any other designers who have put out these simple, yet elegant,
"band" samplers of drawn thread work? If so, where can I find them. TIA

I have a leaflet -- actually a booklet -- which you might like... Linda Culp
Calhoun's Herb Samplers. It is one large sampler and 4 small ones, over 2 on
linen, suggested fabric light mocha belfast linen. They are a matched set, the
beige linen with its soft colors has a very cool, subdued effect. Each consists of
alternating bands of drawn thread, cross stitch and a few beads. They're not as
dense and complex as Linda Driskell, but beautiful and understated. The leaflet is
Leisure Arts Leaflet 2561 and you can see a not very good picture of it at the
following link:

once you reach this address click on 2561 Herb Samplers to see a closeup.

Also, I don't have this next leaflet, but while searching online for a picture of
the herb one I came across a listing for her Seasons in Samplers booklet, Leisure
Arts leaflet 2230. It looks to be a similar sort of thing in colors a bit
brighter. You can see a picture at

Whereabouts in Alabama are you? I'm a native of Mobile.

Dawn Lewis often incorporates some drawn work in her samplers -- and I LOVE her
work.

My daughter has the Linda Calhoun Herb Sampler booklet, and I made one of them
earlier this year as a "learning project" in withdrawing threads. Very
subtle...I would say it's almost a necessity to use the light mocha Belfast,
because some of the floss used is very close to (if not) an exact match. My
daughter has enough Belfast to do the whole set.

Hi Steph

The range from The Drawn Thread and some in the magazine Fine Lines
(by the Historic Needlework Guild) come to mind.

There are books too so you can make up your own.... Linda has 3 out -
I got mine through the Nordic Needle (when our $ was much stronger
:-})

There are other Drawn Thread books - a search at your local library or
amazon.com will give you a list.

Happy browsing and stitching...
