I have Dimensions Gold Collection kits in my stash now and have questions
about the thread. Does anyone know what brand of thread is used? And if
so, is there a simple way to convert Dimension's code numbers to the brand
code numbers? I would like to get this info before starting any of them.
Cannot stand working on an item only to run out of thread! Plus, I would
like to know the brand because I want to make sure it is of a good quality.

Thanks for any help!

Now...on to stitching. I cannot believe that I have not put in a single
stitch in TWO DAYS! I haven't gone a single day without stitching for
months til now. Been moving my office and coming home exhausted and Brain
Dead :-)
SO glad it is over!

Angela

I have several Dimensions Gold kits also and the only thing I could ever find
out was that the floss is DMC and to convert the numbers you delete the number
at the beginning - 6 or 1, I can't recall this early (4am)

I bought the Santa Tree (ornamets hanging on a stick tree) kit (on sale!)
to do as a gift for my mom last year for Christmas. It still isn't done. I
found the floss to be of fairly poor quality, certinaly no better then the
regular kits. I found that it fraid a bit (the aida is 18 count). The
colors were a bit hard to tell apart too (lots of red!). I think for the
cost it maybe isn't worth it. Some of the Gold Collection kits are in chart
form (like Windswept Santa), so you may want to look around first).

Just a note, if you remove the first number of the color number listed on
the chart, you will get the J&P Coats floss number. Just convert that to
your own brand, and you can add your own. Of course, for the price of a
Gold Collection kit, it isn't really worth it. Unless you have to have the
design! :)

Thanks for the info Heather. The ones I have I HAD to have! Just could
not pass them up. I have Portrait of Elegance, Victorian Elegance,
Captivating Felines (you cat lovers/owners would Love this one...wish I
could have a real one...not allowed :-(( ), Elegance of the Orient, and two
Christmas stockings. Now if you gals tell me these are available in chart
form rather than kits I will promptly drown myself in the toilet :-) They
cost me a small fortune.

Elaine (Burnzy) e-mailed me a conversion list this morning for J&P & DMC.
Thank you again Elaine! I just LOVE this group! I even enjoy the cat
fighting <VBEG> (at least until it turns nasty...then NOT!) Reminds me of
the fights between me and my four sisters while growing up.

I have not as yet examined the floss included but do believe I will use my
own. Not a lover of separating all those colors. Although I did notice
that they have them in groups identified by a strand of yarn. Which I
believe would make it easier. They even included floss cards to organize
them. I don't like the color charts though! I understand why they are
used...but I would think the loss in the original sale would offset any
profits of sales due to lower trades and resales. JMHO :-)

I have just finished stitching a Dimensions Gold Collection Kit and am also
a former needlecraft store owner and from past experience with these kits
and others that unless they state on the pattern that they use DMC or Anchor
floss it is neither. The numbering in their own as is the floss and we were
never able to find out what type of floss they used. For example in this
kit the code no. is 13012 +AFs-Lt. red+AF0- if you remove the number 1 in the front
you get 3012 which in DMC is a green and the number doesn't exist in Anchor.
They state in the pattern that the code numbers are for their color
identification system. In the past I have found that trying to convert
colors to DMC and/or Anchor involved using both lines and trying to get as
close a match as possible.
The kit I just finished was a large one and I did have enough thread for
most of the colors but I did have to substitute a couple and they were not
exact matches. I hope this will help you. Get to know you lns very well
and use the Anchor and DMC color cards to help you if you have to substitute
thread.

I have a Dimension Gold Captivating Felines Kit which unfortunately has become separated from its chart/instructions. I have everything else that came with the kit just not the instructions. Does anyone know how I might be able to get a replacement chart? When I google Dimensions my results seem to indicate that Dimensions is owned by simplicity. While there are whole kits still available to purchase on sites like EBay I can't afford to pay twice what I did for it originally and I don't need more thread. I know that because of copy right laws I can't just ask someone to photocopy it. I have sent an email to simplicity hoping that maybe they'll be able/willing to provide me with a copy. If not I have no idea what I'm going to do with the kit if I can't find the chart.

It's a UK company, but maybe they'll be able to help.
Good luck!
