A great Monica story...At the Nashville Needlework Market this year there
was this bazaar woman walking around in a purple suit (we're talkin' PURPLE)
and the most garish purple hat, with enormus purple feather.
She came into my booth and bought a copy of the 'My Son" chart, she was with
a shop owner, so I didn't question it. My husband said to her, "Boy, I'd
like to have a hat like that!" She immediately took it off her hear and
placed it on his..we got a great picture, compliments of a shop owners
husband with a camera. I found out later it was THE 'Monica'...could have
died!!! I did return her money and told her the chart was on the house. She
was so taken with my husband, she said he might just have to be in the next
book. She is a charming lady with a wonderful sence of humor.

Yes, there is. As Louise Sugar said, it's about an antique car run. Betsy's
best friend, police officer Jill Cross, has a cop boyfriend, Lars Larson. Lars
sells his hobby farm and buys a Stanley Steamer. Betsy offers to sponsor him
in the Minnesota annual Antique Car Run, for cars from 1912 or *earlier.*
Lars' steamer is from 1912. I learned quite a bit about Stanley Steamers, some
of it alarming. And I got to ride in such cars as a 1907 Buick, a 1906 Sears,
a 1911 Model T, a 1912 Winton, a 1909 Cadillac and others. I learned to
appreciate these old cars and the terrific, if slightly eccentric, people who
restore and drive them. Of course there's stitchery involved, even a quilt.
Wait till you see what that Irene Potter gets up to! There's even a hint of
romance in Betsy's future.

I am about to set off on a little book tour. I bought a new laptop, a Sony,
that is so powerful it will also replace my desktop computer. I'm bringing it
along, because it's time I started blocking out #6, which I think will be
called Hanging by a Thread. One of you suggested that as a title, I believe,
so whoever you are (I'll have to look it up in my file), you'll get a free copy
of the book, suitably autographed. It's the one with ghost stories in it.

After that: Cutwork ...

Will be at Nashville again? Since all of your book signings are too far
up North for me, I'd love to have your new book signed at Nashville (you
signed all three of mine there last year :-)

Hopefully some day you'll venture a little further South? We do have
book stores down here ;-)

I'm ashamed to say that I haven't read any of these ... and was curious as to
what the heck was on the opening page of Hoffman's website. However .... after
reading what others said -- and being a person who LOVES to read (have ALL the
Harry Potter ... Mitford .. Stephen King ... Anne Rice books), I just HAD to see
what all the commotion was about, and ordered the first 3 last nite from Amazon.
And I have to say that after reading the little blurbs at amazon about them, I
CAN'T WAIT!!! What a great idea for books!! THANKS to everyone for putting this
online here! Now I fear my stitching will suffer, and I'll NEVER get my design
website online because of it ... hahhaha.

Thanks again,
Poetta

I just placed an advance order for #4, Unraveled Sleeve, at Amazon.com.
It isn't even here yet and I'm impatient for #5! :-)

My first three should be here in a few hours. I ordered them last week from
amazon. And I know after I read the first three I will be in search of the
4th one and then "demanding" :) a fifth one . It's nice to know you have a
6th one already in mind.

I noticed several posts about getting the books through Amazon.com. Since
many people want to support their LNS, I wanted to pass the word along that
your LNS can also get these books through their distributors. Ask there
first!

Mary - I heard at Nashville Market that you were also researching for Betsy
to go to "market". Is this in one of your upcoming books?

That's right. And if you LNS owner says s/he doesn't know where to get books,
the reply is, Norden Crafts.

Yes, but I don't know when. I think I may have to go to another Market by then
to refresh my memory. Isn't that too awful? lolol

Monica, how many Betsy books will there be? I'm think how much fun it would to
make a "sampler" of all the free charts, but have no idea how big my fabric needs

I'm afraid I don't know how many there will be. Three are published, one is
about to be published, the fifth is finished and in "production," I'm about to
start the sixth. Six is all I've contracted for, but my editor told me in
February that as along as they continue to sell, Berkley will continue to
publish them. I have a good idea for a seventh and a germ of an idea for the
eighth. After that, who knows? This can't go on forever, but there may be as
many as a dozen.

Oh good heavens, now I will have to go and buy the first 3, so I can have a
complete set...I checked them out of the library being a frugal gal...well now
it seems I'll need to go get them when I pick them up for all my other online
friends with no decent LNS...I'll see you in Chicago, Mary Monica. :D

*g* Now I'm even happier that I recommended the soon out "Unravelled Sleeve" to
my local library. Not only do they have 10 copies on order now, but they went
back and ordered a like number of "Stitch in Time". They did have the other two,
but somehow these two slipped by those who do the ordering. Obviously, someone
must have liked at least one of the books, because I only suggested that maybe
they order the newest one... they went and ordered the other all on their own...
and within 3 weeks of me suggesting it :-)

Please! please please!
for those of us who do not have the book in our hands and have not read
the story yet please put the word "spoiler" or something to that effect
if you are going to talk about any of the story elements.

The reason I don't ignore posts about the book is that there are often
other things discussed other than the actual story details.

Thank you.
