In the summer 1997 issue of American Style magazine pg 43 -- is a
picture of what is considered art needlework.
It was stitched in 1978 by Renie Breskin Adams.

The design is based on the medallion format and shapes of an oriental
carpet--densely stitched with pattern and little figures---I was trying
to figure out what stitch was used but can't tell from the photo--looks
vaguely like a chain stitched background--satin stitches and some kind
of outline stitching.

The Fiberarts Annuals a series of books published by Lark usually show
examples of very artistic embroideries and needlework too.

It's truly amazing what we can create with needle and thread.
