woo hoo! Just got back from a week in San Francisco this
afternoon... I visited Britex Fabrics downtown - 4 stories full of
quality fabrics! Apparently they do a mail-order swatch thingy -
details at http://www.britexfabrics.com/ (no affiliation...). I was in
shock! Unfortunately, I only had $20, so I just bought 1.5 yards of
silk - chiffon, maybe? I don't know my fabric types... It's a
gray-blue with a flower print along the bottom edge - should make a nice
dress when I get around to it.
They didn't seem to have any embroidery stuff, per se, but I did
notice silk buttonhole twist as well as hundreds of spools of silk
ribbons and so on. I just haven't ever seen so much in one place!

I've almost finished a Mill Hill beaded dragonfly, plus about a third
of Shroomhilde on the plane this trip! Now off to bed before I fall
over!

AAAACCCCKKKKKK -- DH & I went there when we visited San Francisco. Isn't it an
absolute paradise for fabrics??? I found about a bazillion different things I
wanted but all I got was some cat fabric and some with walrii on it! But
didn't you go to the needlepoint shop on the opposite side of the block --
around two corners from Britex? It is upstairs and you have to ring a bell so
that they open the door for you. When I was there in '97, they didn't have
much in the way of xs stuff but they had an absolute wealth of specialty fibers
that were to die for!!! I wonder if it is still ther?? Anyway, glad you had a
good time. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

Hi Tia Mary!

The store you remember is Needlepoint, Inc. They are also responsible for the
Needlepoint, Inc. line of silk used so much in the Drawn Thread charts.
They do mail order for those who are interested, but I don't remember the
address.

Their website is http://www.needlepointinc.com/
Britex is fabulous - I live going there even though I don't know the 1st
thing about sewing! My XH was (probably still is) a photographer and he was
hired to do some as for them. We got to go through the whole place when it
was completely empty except for us and my SIL (the model). It was truly
inspiring!
