In recent years, dyestuffs have been discontinued due to ecological concerns
and regulations. This has affected most manufacturers of textiles and
fibers, including DMC. After several years of reformulations, the company
decided that certain colors needed to be shifted in order to keep color
families consistent. In February, 1995, these new shades were released.
For most of the colors, the change was difficult to see. But some shades

There are so very many of them out there, and the contact information changes
rapidly. But all is not lost...
The International Needleart Retailer's Guild has a free booklet with the names
and addresses of more than 300 needlework specialty shops. They mention the
U.S, Canada, England, Australia, and "even Portugal."

Welcome. This is one of several Needlework Frequently Asked Questions
(Needlework FAQs) documents for the rec.crafts.textiles.needlework Usenet
newsgroup on the Internet.
Together, the documents provide a collection of information that should be of
use to people who do any kind of needlework. They include lists of magazines,
mail order companies, guilds, events--even conversion tables.
The hints and tips contained here have been collected from the many people who
have been kind enough to share their wisdom with the net. In fact, this is
an attempt to represent the collective wisdom of the stitchers who post to
rec.crafts.textiles.needlework.

This document is one of the successors to the original "Counted Cross Stitch
FAQ", first posted to the old rec.crafts.textiles newsgroup on April
20, 1994.
The CCS FAQ moved to rec.crafts.textiles.needlework on September 17, 1994,
when the newsgroup was first created.
In June, 1995, the contents of the "Counted Cross Stitch FAQ" were split into
two new FAQs--the "General Needlework Information FAQ" and the "Counted Cross
Stitch and Counted Thread FAQ".
In February, 1996, the two FAQs were split into a collection of Needlework
FAQs.
Thanks to the people who have given permission for their messages and postings
to be quoted directly. The names are given where quoted.
Special thanks to those people who read the draft of the original "Counted
Cross Stitch FAQ" for their time, care and suggestions.
