The other day I saw a post about this group. I had heard of it before from a
friend whose nephew has had chemo. My daughter (10 last January) has never had
a major hair cut........until today : ) She is donating 18 inches of hair and
is loving her new short do! It is actually still past her shoulders!

Thanks to whomever brought this up and reminded me of this wonderful group : )

Donna,

What a wonderful act of kindness on your daughter's part! I know that it will
be greatly appreciated by that organization!

Donna,

My congratulations and admiration to your daughter! What a giving act, especially
for that age. That truly is a generous gift on her part!

I just wanted to add a 'feel good' story to this thread. Recently a
young friend of mind lost her 65 year old father to cancer. She was
understandable very distraught when I spoke to her before the funeral.

The next week I tuned into the evening news program and there was my
friend beaming from the hairdresser's chair! Each year she lets her
hair grow until early summer, then she gets a short haircut. She
donates this hair to be made into wigs for those who have lost their
hair due to chemotherapy.

This year's donation was very special. There is an 8 year old girl in
her subdivision who recently lost her hair because of chemotherapy for
a brain tumor. A local hair salon will be using her hair to make a wig
for her young neighbour!

The cameras followed her when she went to show her little friend her
new hair style. The big smiles on their faces made me think this act
of charity was great therapy for both of them!

Wow! This lady must have some head of hair, since I understood Locks of Love
only takes hair 12 inches or longer.

Nope, they take 10 inches or longer. I get my hair cut 11 or 12 inches
to be certain it's long enough... and this time around my hair will have
hit that length a month or two under 2 years... quite annoying right
now... It's long enough to be quite heavy (I've *very* thick hair), and
hot enough to be very annoying right now... but if I get it cut now,
it'll be too short to pull back easily, which would be even more
annoying in this heat, not to mention a pain in the neck for controlling
at the Renaissance Festival where I work end of August through September.

Sigh... I'm determined to let it get long enough again, but it's
starting to get annoying, with the longest part being down to my waist
when I sit up properly.

Thanks -- I will pass this on to her : ) She started early in the "giving"
department -- I took her with me doing Meals on Wheels from the time she was 2
until she started kindergarten.

I have two in a bag and ready to go! I was so excited to see my friend get
12" cut off of her head last night and hand me the tail to send with my
measley 10" tail....

Little joys in life eh?

Wow! Her hair must grow *really* fast! If I cut my hair
really short (currently mid-back), it would take a good 5 years to
grow it long enough to cut again!
