I got mine Friday (today is Tuesday) and I wonder how I lived without it! I
really don't have problems seeing (or so I thought) so didn't think I needed
one. I started TW's Noah's Ark Sampler and realized I needed help with the one
over one on 28 ct. animals so ordered the Dazor with the floor stand base. It
is the circle one. The light is great and the magnifying fantastic. I sit on
the sofa to stitch and I can pull the lens right over. I have to admit it isn't
very pretty in the living room but it is here to stay. It took me all of about
30 seconds to get used to stitching with it.

I've had the Dazor Lamp for years now and love it. Mine has the circular
lens/light. Sometimes I just use if for the light, but most of the time
for both. I have the floor model with wheels, which is essential if it
won't be "living" in one place. They're quite heavy. I think you should
shop around some, as I think I've seen them for about $225. Good luck in
whatever you decide to do.

I purchased one that seemed very similar to the Dazor, had the same
description. Name of the company is LiteSource. This one I purchased at my
local AC Moore with a 40% off coupon!! The original cost was $49.99 and
they also sell the stand to make it a floor lamp for another $49.99 choice
of colors are black and white. Also at my local Office Max I believe
General Electric puts out a similar one for the same cost but didn't offer a
floor stand attachment.
I purchased mine a few weeks ago for my over one projects and I must say I
am very happy!! And very thrilled that it only cost me $29.99.
Here is the URL of the company, they do not sell online but you can view the
model and their description. I am not endorsing this as such.....but I am
thrilled with mine!!

You may want to check LS&S Group < http://www.lssgroup.com > to price
compare Dazor magnifiers/lights. LS&S specializes in "in products for
the visually & hearing impaired." Usual disclaimer here, I'm just a
happy customer with no affiliation.
For example, some years ago I purchased a "Visual Mate" from my LNS for
about $70 for my grandmother who has macular degeneration in her eyes.
I also bought the "swing arm" that clamps to a table from my LNS for
about $30. LS&S Group's prices are currently $48 & $19, respectively,
for the same items (pg 67 of 132 of LS&S catalog). The Dazors are
listed on page 66.

I am going to be the exception here after reading many messages. My Dazor
light is at least 5 years old, maybe older, and I have used it twice. The
light and magnifier arm gets in my way and I keep hitting it with my needle so
I have put it away in my "back room" which is filled with stash. I find that
my Ott light does beautifully and if I need magnification I use a light I
bought in 1976, floor model goose-neck light with an attached magnifier. One
day I may try the Dazor again.

I finally decided on the Ott becausemy apartment is very dark, even during
the daylight hours. When it came in, my LNS and I put it together at the
shop before I brought it home, to make sure it worked, etc. She has had a
Dazor for years, and wanted to make a comparison. She said the light
quality seemed superior to that of the Dazor!
I've found out in using it over the past 2 weeks, that I don't know how I
did without this for so long. Everything, the light source and the
magniffier are easily moved in and out of position. I really find the true
light superior to the other types...there is no glare at all....and there
are no shadows. I am very sensitive to glare....so that may account for
some of my preferences. I am also very pleased that if I don't need the
magnifyer section, I don't have to have it down or in my way...everything
"goosnecks" to where you want it.
Both set-ups cost about the same (at least the floor ones do) but I would do
it all over again and get the Ott.

I too, think the light from the Ott is the bestest, brightest there
is. I like using magnifier glasses when I stitch, then I don't have
to worry about positioning a separate magnifier. I use a true-color
bulb from DickBlick and I have no trouble stitching under it, but the
light does not compare to the Ott. It is like stitching in bright
sunlight.

I also bought a "cheepie" lamp for $18 canadian at a local building
store this week. Decided I would like to try the cheaper version, (
their was also a $59 version) to see if I liked it. It is working
great. It is a clip to the table type but I was lucky enough to have
an old desk lamp base which fit the pole of the magnifier lamp. So now
it resides at my feet and swings neatly over my lap for working. Was
in the same store last evening with DH who suggested I might want the
more expensive version. But I am quite happy with the $18 one. I only
use a 40 watt bulb in it although it can take up to 60.

A friend told me that a friend told her that the Dazor on casters she has
wobbles. Anybody else notice this? Is it a problem?
TIA,
Nan Evelyn
Nan - mine doesn't wobble at all - never has and I have had mine for 9
years. Mine has been the best thing about cross stitching - I use it
every day.

Mine doesn't wobble unless I have taken it across country. I have
difficulty tightening the screw under the base. Once that is tight, no
more wobbles. Have your friend look under the base where the pole
attaches. There is a huge nut that has to be tight. It connects the
crossed arms [or are they feet] and the pole. Hope this fixes her
problem.
