I've been doing some thinking. There's been a lot of bickering on RCTN
lately, so I've been doing some pondering, and I think I've come up with
something that will save us a lot of time and crankiness. Introducing the
Sticher's Code! Simply figure out your personal code and add it to your sig
line! Then everyone will know who you are, where you are from, what your
household is like, and where you stand on burning issues such as Floss Licking.

Choose the appropriate code or symbol in each category and separate them by slashes:

sex: X=female Y=male

country: use appropriate 3-letter code

spouse: use H or W and from 1 to 3 + or - to indicate to what degree they "get
it" at the moment

kids: use numbers and letters, e.g. X8,YY 4 is an 8-year old daughter and twin 4 year
old boys

grandkids: same as above, but use lowercase x's and y's

pets: use numbers and letters for Cats, Dogs, Birds, Fish, Rabbits, Ferrets, Lizards,
Snakes. E.g. , 3C,1D, 10F is 3 cats, 1 dog, and 10 fish. You can use lower
case for kittens, puppies, hatchlings, bunnies, guppies, etc.

needlework preference (list all that apply, roughly in order of preference): X (cross stitch),
N (needlepoint), R (silk ribbon), C (crewel), H (Hardanger), T (tatting),
L (lace), D (drawn-thread work), P (pulled threadwork)

method of work: 0= in hand, H=hoop, S=scroll frame, Q=Q-snap; add L if you usually use a
lap stand, F if you use a floor stand

floss-licking: :-D~ for floss lickers, :-X for non-lickers

mounting: L=lacing, P=pinning, S=sticky board, D=duct tape

framing: G=with glass, G-=no glass, NG=non-glare glass, P=plastic wrap

washing work: W+= wash, W- no wash. Wo= only in Orvus!

floss preference: D=DMC, A=Anchor, M=I make my own

metallic threads: M- = not my cup of tea, M= okay as highlights,
M+ = Kreinik is my middle name!

blended needles: B- = hate them, B= okay within reason, B+ = love them!,
B++ = I am Teresa Wentzler

backstitching: b- = hate it, b = some is all right, b+ = it's my favorite part,
b++= can I do yours?

rotation: R+ = in rotation, R- = not in rotation, R~ = in rotation except for that one
piece I need to finish by yesterday, R? = what's a rotation? (Note: You can
use numbers or letters to indicate the periodicity of your rotation, e.g. R+10
is a 10-hour rotation.)

samplers: S- = hate samplers, S = samplers are okay, S+ = love samplers!,
S++ = I worship at the Shrine of the Scarlet Letter

kits: K+ = kits are fine, K= kits are okay, K- = kits are a tool of the Evil One,
Kc = I will buy a kit if it's the only way I can get the chart...

embellishing: E- = I don't do beads, E= a few charms never hurt anyone,
E+= I own stock in Mill Hill, E++ = there's stitching under all that?

Christina: C- = don't like her posts, C = some of her posts are okay, C+ = love her posts!,
C++ = I am Christina

Jim Cripwell: J- = don't like his posts, J= sometimes he makes sense, C+ = Jim is cool!,
J++ = I am Jim Cripwell

Then conclude with the name of your favorite hunk or babe, your favorite
author, and your favorite snack.

That should about cover it, yes? Now we can get back to stitching!

Is Patrick Stewart related to Martha Stewart? My kids have started
calling me Martha Stewart -- is this good or bad?

OK, I'll play too. And I would seriously consider trimming this down
into a "official" stitcher's code. If you don't, I might and as soon as
I get my Cat Code web page back up I'll add it to there.

Here's me:
X USA H++ 3C11B15F X 0 :-D~ P G W+ D M B b+ R~ S Kc E C? J? My Husband
Robert Heinlein Hershey Bars

And the only explanations I feel neccessary:

Note that I skipped kids and grandkids, seeing as I've been married only
3 1/2 weeks now!

3C11B15F That's Cats, Birds, Fish! Yes, we have a zoo!

C? J? can be translated as "Christine who? Jim which?" as I don't
follow any of the argument threads and wouldn't comment on the poster
personally even if I did.

And yes, my husband is a hunk! But if I have to choose someone famous,
I'll take Val Kilmer!

Hi all,

I wanted to say a big thank you to Monique for thinking of this great
way of explaining oursleves. I just added my stitcher's code to my sig
file, and thought I should explain a couple of things...

DF= darling fiancé. This will change next year.
10C= 4 are ours, the other 6 we're fostering for the SPCA. Names
are: Max, Pasha, Sassifrass (Sassy)and Tinker (ours), Tigger,
Simba, Squeaky, Inky and Gizmo (kittens we foster), and Keikko
Kirei (Japanese for "splendid beauty", also being fostered)
1D= Smidgen, a retriever/boxer cross.
1H= hedgehog. Named Nicholas Prickleby (Nicky)
X,p= Cross stitch and petit point.
:-D~,:-X= sometimes, sometimes not.

I hope that clears things up for everyone!

Happy Stitching!

The only explanations:

Boyfriend, not married yet but I'm working on it. And he DOES understand. :-)

Scroll - Tomorrow's Treasures. I own both a lap frame and a floor stand
but don't ususally use them.

I don't usually lick but I have been known to suffer a mental lapse and do it.

Backstitching - hate it but will generally do it if called for.

Rotation - HAH! What a joke! I have too many pieces to rotate. I work
on whatever I feel like or is due tomorrow night.

Kits - EVIL but if I can't get the chart any other way, I'll break down,
spend the money then give the fabric and floss to my nieces to doodle on.

Christina - I'm a Christina wannabe. She's my hero! Quack, quack!

Jim - I may not always agree with him but I still look forward to reading
his posts.

My favorite hunk is my sweetie. He's the love of my life. Patrick
Stewart is easy on the eyes but Keith is the one who will make sure I take
my vitamins and gives me goosebumps when he nibbles on my neck! Enough said.

Favorite author - self-explanitory

Favorite snack - ditto!

(I wish I'd thought of this. But AOL doesn't allow me a .sig file.)

Monique,

I think your idea is hilarious but I'm afraid I would need an
instruction manual cause I would never remember all those codes - have
pity on those of us with memories like sieves. BTW, I love Dorothy
Dunnett's books, too, except for that last series. The first one was
good but I just couldn't get into the second. Finally took it back to
the library unread. What I would love to find is a set of the Lymond
Chronicles in hardback.

Mine's been added to my .sig. I couldn't come up with a 'favorite'
author, my tastes run from Jane Austen to Stephen King, and just about
everything inbetween! Hey, I work in a library and so I love them all!
Only thing is that I haven't figured out how to 'read' a book and do
needlework at the same time. I do use the books on tape a lot and then
'listen' to the book as I work, but unfortunately not every book is on tape.

Get your mind out of the gutter, people! I think MM meant if they "get"
the needlework as an obsession thing! I.E., s.e.x. not sex. :-)

Also, how about adding a code for stash size? Like:

st -- I only have what I need for my current project
st - My stash can fill a shoe box
st I have enough projects to last through the year 2000
st + My stash has its own closet
st ++ My stash has its own room
st +++ My stash has its own zip code, and my Visa melted as SOCS.

haven't kept track for any changes, except the one time someone asked me
to change theirs.

But I only work on projects while gaming which I don't expect to stay clean
