Everyone is asking me for birthday and Christmas gift ideas for myself
and I have nothing to tell them. My wish list is blank this year.
That is until I saw the six strand sweets overdyed floss mentioned on
a recent thread. So does anyone else out there have any hidden
goodies like this that I may not know about? I have already suggested
gift certificates from my LNS to several family members and they talk
to each other so I can't use that one any more. They each want to get
me something different. I do Hardanger, cross stitch, and some small
embroidery of different stitches. I have more stash than I like (it
only reminds me of how little I get to stitch and how I long to get to
those projects, but can't), so no help there unless I get more time to
stitch or see something new I can't live without, like the overdyes
mentioned. My guess is that the price range is between $20 - $100
USD. I know I could use a great tote, but have yet to find one. I
stitch in-hand, so it wouldn't have to be big enough to hold stretcher
bars. Perhaps a nice needle case or small pin cushion, but none I
have seen have really captured my fancy. Off topic for stitching, I
need a tea caddy and would like a beautiful one, but again my Google
search was fruitless.

Any help ladies? Surely some people out there know of some nifty
stitching items to tempt me?

Do you have a dololly for your Hardanger work? I splurged on one for myself
and can't see working without it now - mind you it works best with the
larger threads for me....

Just an idea! Here's where I bought mine:
http://www.theblendedneedle.com/dololly.html I got the hematite heart one
pictured near the bottom of the page.

Hope that helps some. Maybe some more creative gifts, like offers of baby
sitting for a weekend if you have children/animals so you can have a
stitching retreat? Refills on consumables - like hand lotion or thread
condition if you use those.

(3.5 x 3.5 inches),Scissorkeeps and Needlecases all done in
Cross-stitch -each kit can easily be done without a hoop because they are
small - prices range from $4.50 to $16.95 for a Spectacle case - kits made
in Scotland and have various themes - flowers (too many choices to mention
here ),Scottish,Irish ,Welsh,Celtic,Historic,Medieval etc.
You can e-mail me on gord...@earthlink.net if you are interested and I can
e-mail you some pictures - I will be having a website operational in
January.
If anyone else would like any information on these kits then feel free to
e-mail too - these kits make adorable Holiday gifts and are very cheap to
mail out to relatives ,friends,etc.

How about frames or finishing materials (material if you make pillows, etc.) or
gift certificates to get them framed?

How about a Fabric of the Month club membership at Silkweavers? Most
of them are $20/month which would be $120 for a year, and there are
lots of options. http://www.silkweaver.com/fabric

If you want a dololly I'd go to wyndhamneedlework.com where they are
selling the original dololly again or to gripitplus where you can find
other versions called Fiber Hiders.

Mrs. Bridges Pantry in Putnam CT has really nice tea cozies but they
don't have a web mail-order for them.
http://www.mrsbridgespantry.com/Pages/aboutus.html

I don't know what other fibers you're interested in but I love the
Pearsalls silk from England that's now available at several shops.
Wyndham (see above) has it as does Jenny June. JJ also has a Thread
Club option available
http://www.jennyjune.com/threads.asp

These are great hand-dyed flosses, I have the whole set (so far).

Another new creator of hand-dyed floss, this one in Australia:

Also magazine subscriptions are a thought, I got a Jill Oxton
subscription last year.

Darleen,
As far as bags go, have you checked out the Vera Bradley bags? I have
one and I drag it everywhere and it's still in great shape. Your LNS may
carry them. They're not cheap, but make a great gift. The huge one I got
was around $70. If your LNS doesn't carry them, both Zandy's
(www.zandys.com ) and Stitchville (www.stitchville.com ) carry them, and do
mail order.
If you like Hardanger, the book Hardanger Embroidery by Jill Carter (ISBN
1-889682-14-4) is great! If you like beading, the book Beaded Cross-Stitch
Treasures by Gay Bowles (Mill Hill) (ISBN 0-8069-5527-9) is awesome.
Do you have a nice floor stand?? How about an OTT light (portable or
floor standing) or magnifier if you use one. The new mini clip on ones are
great. They are light weight enough to put on a set of Q-snaps and have a
nice clear view (IMO.)
You can put stuff on your list even if you can't find it. Someone else
may have totally different resources and can find what you're looking for.
Hope these suggestions help.

I got a look at these at the Stitchville site and they look
interesting. Ohhhh. I can't tell what the sizes are though, and if
they are open only at the top or unzip to fold totally open, single or
double zipper, etc. What can you tell me about them? What kind of
pockets are inside? A good bag is one thing I need, but haven't got
because I couldn't find the perfect one.

Darleen,
They all zip at the top only. Single zipper. Pockets inside vary by
size of bag. I have the Villager I think. It's the biggest one. I can fit
several canvases, all the thread kits to go with and my frame weight easily
in there as well as all my miscellaneous stitching stuff and extra papers
(and even a notebook.) Mine has 6 pockets around the inside made of the
same material as the bag. The middle one bigger than the other 2 on each
side. There is also a small pocket on the outside (between the handles.)
Mine is about 6 - 8 inches wide at the bottom with a fabric covered
removable stiff bottom (heavy cardboard or plastic.) Take out the bottom
and the whole bag can be thrown in the wash. For measurements (to pick the
best size bag) you may want to call the store. They have a toll free
number. Since I don't know how big a tote you like to carry or what amount
and kind of things you'd carry around I can't recommend a good size. My
best guesses would be Villager (if you want huge), petite Villager or tote.
Hope this helps a little. If you have more questions, please post or
e-mail me.
