Hello everyone,

Well I am just about ready to start stitching Celtic Spring and was
wondering if I actually use 2 strands of the Petite Treasure Braid (that is,
cut 2 lengths from the card - just like 2 strands of DMC cotton) or do I
only use 1 strand (as it comes off the card). Hope this makes sense.

I have never used this braid before & as it was so expensive - I paid
$AUS8.60 a card for it and the pattern calls for 4 cards - I want some
advice if anyone out there can help me please.

TIA

Hi again Barbara,
I've been using two strands. I wasnt sure at first and started with one, but
it didnt look 'sparkly' enough, so I frogged that and used two. I'm almost
half way through and have only just started my second card, so I think I
will have enough (hope so anyway <G>).
Kay.

Hello Kay,

Once again you have come to my rescue. I definitely know who to ask on
Celtic Spring - don't I? Is she looking lovely, I can't wait to start her.

I am going to my LNS tomorrow to buy a new frame as all the frames that I
own have various WIP's on them but I want to bring Celtic Spring to the top
of my work pile.

I couldn't manage to buy the Willow Green Linen, they don't have it in
Sydney - I had to settle for Platinum 28 count Cashel Linen. But I am
pleased with the colour when I lay the threads and beads on it, besides I
want to hang her in my Bedroom and the walls are mauve, so I guess the
Platinum will be a better choice for this.

By the way, how much do you pay for your linens and Petite Treasure Braid
where you live? I paid AUS$92.50 a metre (which is 3 inches less than a
yard) for the linen & as I posted earlier AUS$8.60 for the braid. I think
we get *ripped off* down here in Australia.

Thanks again Kay for answering my post.

Bye for now

Hi Barbara,
Once again, happy to help:-) She is a real pleasure to stitch, and she does
look wonderful, the colours are so much more vibrant than in the pictures.
I am doing her on a 28 count Quaker cloth in Raw linen, as I wanted to use
the same fabric as I plan to use for Celtic Christmas too, but I have seen
her on a lighter linen, and she looks just as good, so I'm sure the Platinum
will work wonderfully.
Over here in the UK I paid £2.50 a card for the braid, and linen is about
£19-£20 or so per metre. No idea what the exchange rate is, so I dont know
how that compares. I do know that everything is much cheaper, and much more
easily available in the US, so I want to emigrate, but every time I start
saving for the airfare, I see something that I just have to add to my stash,
so I dont suppose I will ever get there :-( and I suppose the children would
complain if I just upped sticks and left, (no one to cook their dinner!).
Anyway, I know you will have great fun stitching her.
Bye:-)
Kay

Let me remember correctly.....
I chose to use two strands of the petite because the regular treasure
braid isn't thick enough just with one thread and doubled the regular
Treasure braid is way too thick. So using two strands of Petite made the
most sense.
one strand of regular equals=4
2 strands of petite equals=six this makes for the best!
2 strands of regular equals=8 too thick

It also allows for a blended color on World Peace Angel
Which I didn't give the quantity for because I didn't want all of you to
have heart failure as I did. There are no dyelots so if you just keep
picking up a couple at a time then it won't feel like a lot.

"Ya right!" they all say!

I can hear you ya know?

Now Kay......here's how we or our grandparents did it!
Ya get a boat..a non-leaky one and you eat crackers and barf for a month
and if you are lucky, you make it here alive. Once here, you will have
to stop saluting the dear queen and her wonderful mother, but only in
public. In the privacy of our homes we watch the royal weddings and
funerals.
Then you have to forget politics even if you do have the right to vote
because you will only have the choice between two losers every four
years. Bring the kids....we will give them jobs and you can stay home
and stitch as long as there is money for food.
We do have high gas prices but it only affects the poor and they live
in the cities and have access to busing. The middle class has forgone
the weekend drives to the country. But our stores are full of food.I
feel so saddened by what you wonderful people are going through...it
must be awful!
I'll give you a job but once you count charts all day you'll never
stitch my designs...infact one of my employees eagerly put out the money
for the $24.95 Blue Ribbon Sampler????????
Which I for the life of me can't figure out......my designs are all
cross stitch except for a few which have a little touch of another
stitch. I don't see the need for pages of instructions when there are so
many books explaining the stitches.
My instructions are easy..thread the needle and make an X

I have to go lay down....I'm dizzy!

As opposed to a choice between two groups of clowns every four years, not a
big difference!!

Well, the children have to live on bread and gruel so that I can buy all the
designs you and your lovely daughter keep bringing out :)

Really?! Ok then, forget the boat, I'll swim!!

See ya soon (if the sharks dont get me!)

Thank you Marilyn for clearing this matter up for me. I am enjoying
stitching Celtic Spring (having completed Celtic Christmas 3 years ago) and
look forward to you designing the remaining two.
