Hi,

I might make it down Houston (TX) way over spring break. I've
searched some of the on-line lists of shops (off RCTN page, etc.), but
what I'm finding looks a little out of date. Aren't Twinkle's and
Idle Hands closed? Is there anywhere in the area I should make it a
point to visit?

Hi Monique,
If you're looking for a needlepoint/canvas shop, I recommend Needle Haus.
It's in Houston, close to downtown (I think, I've only been there once).

For cross stitch and hardanger, 3 Stitches. It's actually in Spring, but
not far from Willowbrook Mall. The owner, Pam, is great! I took a class
with her a couple of months ago. She was very helpful.

For cross-stitch & hardanger there's also Stitchcraft near Bellaire &
Chimney Rock - Olga is great! There are several needlepoint shops too, but
will have to look them up if that's what you're interested in.

Yes, Monique. Both Twinkles and Idle Hands are closed. For Needlepoint,
there's Needle House (WELL worth the trip-- Lots of things for other types
of needleworkers too. Great books and one huge room of JUST fibres-they've
also started carrying Goldwork supplies) and Chaparral, both near the
Galleria area. As others here have said, we're blessed with two wonderful
cross stitch shops here in the far north of town-- Three Stitches and
Stitches and More. There's yet another shop that specializes in Needlepoint,
knitting and beadwork just down the street from Stitches and More. (There's
an absolutely wonderful stamping and assorted papercrafts store connected to
it as well.) I can't remember the name of the shop offhand. (A Stitch In
Time, also on the north side of town has also closed.) Stitchcraft in
Bellaire is wonderful and there's another shop far south of town, Harbour
Stitchery. What part of town will you be staying in? Houston is a HUGE city
with gawsh-awful traffic. People here are quite used to driving 50 miles and
still thinking of things as "local."

Enjoy your Spring Break here!

Someone else has mentioned 3 Stitches in Spring. You might also visit
Stitchcraft in Bellaire. It's in the Bellaire triangle formed by Bellaire,
Bissonnet and Chimney Rock. Olga, the store owner, is a doll. Lots of neat
stuff, too.

The other northside shop that Jamie is thinking of is Needlearts which is
about a mile west of Stitches & More. You could easily make it to the three
Spring shops in a single afternoon.
