I was even considering hand painting (sponging) some white 32 Jobelan with
fabric paint if I have to...is this something anyone has tried for xstitch and
what pitfalls might I expect if I have to do it this way??
TIA

Pick a 100% cotton if you can and drop a note to
rec.crafts.textiles.quilting asking for some hand-dye techniques. I've
had some lovely effects on cotton muslin, but I've never tried on
evenweave.

Does Green Mountain fabrics have a blue?? I looked up my bookmarks, but couldn't
find it. Maybe I'll take a ride out Rt.2 and see if I can find out. Maybe I'll
check out another store that has a lot of leaflets (some OOP TW's I've heard)
Kim (who's real happy to be back home in Vermont)
I found a piece of 49 x 60cm Quaker fat quarter Zweigelt Linen today in a light
steel blue prepackaged for $14.00, which is sufficient to do the detail piece
(just a parrot), however, I was astonished at the price of the fabric
available.
The prices for fabric off the bolt started at $45.00/m AUD for coloured
fabrics, and the one that I really wanted, which was a 40 count light blue
evenweave was priced at $60.00AUD /metre. Is this normal pricing, or are we
being ripped off??? I can't seem to find anything in any of the places I've
been to online that lists this sort of fabric. (For all you who couldn't be
bothered doing the maths, $60.00/m is around $40US/m). And I need a piece
110cm x 90cm (at 40 count) for the full 640 x 480 stitch piece!
All help gratefully appreciated!

I have a catalog from The Universal Stitcher a division of Wichelt that has
all (or pretty close) of the colors and counts of fabric. You can get a
copy by calling 1(800)830-5027 or write to P.O. Box 581726 Minneapolis,
Minnesota 55458-1726 .
In this catalog I found:
32ct Antique Blue/Misty Blue - Linen
32ct Blue Wing - Linen
32ct French Blue/Amsterdam Blue - Linen
32ct Silver Blue - Linen
32ct Star Sapphire - Linen
32ct Twilight Blue - Linen
32ct Blue - Belfast Linen
32ct Bonnie Blue - Royal Crown Danish Linen (soft touch)
Your local shop should be able to get these fabrics for you from Wichelt or
you can order them yourself through the Universal Stitcher. Hope this
helps.
Happy Stitching!
