I have not seen anyone mention this, so I thought people might be
interested. I now have two maidens being stitched, for both of which I
made the patterns using Pattern Maker. Naturally, both patterns use
almost the same set of symbols, but equally naturally, the symbols
represent very different colours. I am not sure how well my brain will be
able to remember which one is which. I know I will have to be extra
careful to make sure I check each symbol chart before I start stitching
with a new piece of thread.

Well Jim, you could change the symbols! Just reprint the chart... I
know what you mean, I had the same thing with 2 charts (from the same
designer) - Beets and Cabbages. I wished that the symbol for, say,
987, was the same on both charts but it wasn't. I finally just worked
hard on Cabbages, finished it, and now have only Beets to worry about.

Someone mentioned a few weeks ago that there were different symbols
used for the same colors within a multi-page leaflet or pattern.
Sounds like I wouldn't be able to work on it late at night, when my
brain cells turn into oatmeal!

has anyone seen the chart for joan elliott's angel of cross-stitch? it uses
a hell of a lot of DMC colors (all of them i think) and the chart uses the
same symbols several times. THAT one i'll need to keep my stitchin' wits
about me! that's why i'm not starting it until AFTER the wedding!

And then there's that Maureen Appleton thing (vase of flowers - can't
remember the name right off) that DOES use ALL the DMC colors - wonder
what THAT chart looks like! Has anybody done it?? Just curious,

Both of these charts used all the DMC colors available at the time. DMC has
released at least 30 new colors since then.

And I know I am starting a riot but I understand they will be releasing another
25-30 colors soon. (Not the ones releases as a box set last year) Experience
says probably at the January trade show. A designer I know has seen them and
says they include a few very nice yellow-greens. This is too late for Christmas
gifts, unless you get a gift certificate, but there is always Valentine's day.

I am loosing sleep over how I ame going to fit these in my thread box.

Lissy, this one's in my stash. It does use the same symbols over and over, but
they're in differnt colors. There's a set of symbols in each of black, red,
blue, green, and purple. Seems to be a very clear design though. Someday I'll
get to it =)

Floral Finesse. I've got it. I've not done it (it's on the list
though...after I finish a couple of other big projects (already
started), I'll pull it out). I did look at the chart a couple of
weeks ago, though (DS was home sick, and I needed something to do that
I could drop quickly, so I went through my stash).

It's a big spiral bound book. Black on white chart. Each spread
(facing pages) is a chart on the left and the legend on the right. At
the top of each right hand page is a big notice that says "Each page
has its own combination of symbols to colors. Colors used on adjacent
pages will have the same symbols." (or words to that effect.)

So it's kind of a combination.... If you're working your way across
or down or diagonally across the chart, the most used colors will have
the same symbol on this page as it did on the last one and on the next
page. But the colors that only get used for a page or two may share a
symbol (i.e. the # on page 3 may be used for a different color than
the # on page 20, but if there's a = on page 6 and a = on page 7
they'll be the same color).
