Hi all, Was just wondering if you could help me out. I have a number of
Stoney Creek charts which call for Glissen Gloss Rainbow blending filament
which is produced by madeira. So far I have had no luck in locating any
locally. I was wondering if it is basically the same as Kreinik Blending
Filament and if so is there a conversion chart website somewhere to assist
me.
I know I can order it online but was hoping to avoid this if possible.
Thanks

They are very similar. I'm sure you could sub one with the other if you
could find a conversion chart. I prefer Glissen Gloss to Kreinik, it's much
easier to handle and stitch with, but it's harder to find, so you sort of
have to decide which 'con' to go with.

Glissen Gloss is a different creature from Kreinik BF. I've used both &
don't recall any appreciable difference in the two. Given the difficulties
you may have in obtaining GG, I'd have no qualms about substituting one for
the other if I could get the right color.

Glissen Gloss Rainbow Blending Thread is made by Madeira, and was
originally designed for use in sewing machines. It is the same weight
(thickness) as Kreinik blending filament, but a different texture. The
carrying (non-sparkly) fiber is stronger in the RBT, and it is more
tightly twisted with the shiny part. This makes it possible to run
through a sewing machine, and makes it a bit easier to handle. The two
disadvantages to the RBT are (1) it is much harder to find, and (2) it
is a little bit less sparkly than the Kreinik blending filament because
of the tighter twist.

If you e-mail me with the specific RBT numbers you need, I have a
conversion chart printed by Madeira from RBT to Kreinik BF, and I can
look them up for you. I got the conversion chart from Liz Turner Diehl,
just in case anyone wants to contact her about getting one of their very
own. There's a link to her e-mail and website on the CATS show website

Amanda, I was after some of this (also for a Stoney Creek pattern) and I
discovered a source in Queensland. It seems, for some ridiculous reason,
they can't bring every colour into Australia, but they gave me two colours
which are working out fine. They were $3:50 each.

Wow - thanks Ruth I wonder wether either of the 2 places mentioned will be
having a stand at the Autumn stitches and craft show in Sydney! I am
venturing there on the Thursday - what better way to spend valentines day
than with things I love! lol
