I am interested in doing a Susan Portra design - does she have a website and
can you order over the internet? Which design have you done or which would you
recommend. Thanks, Anne

Anne,

Susan doesn't have a web site to my knowledge. Her designs are fun though, and
I have been fortunate to take a couple of classes with her. She is a definite
kick. I've done a number of her designs, Spirit of the Southwest, Chaca,
several of her saints. I think you'll enjoy her patterns.

Hi Anne:

Are the designs of this artist all Native American related ??? If so, could you
point me in the right direction to contact her or her company ???

Thanks in advance,

I'd like to know how to get her designs also. Does she have a catalog?
I seem to remember hearing that she is from Huntington Beach,
California. Is this correct or is my memory going bonkers? Does she
have a shop in Huntington Beach? Are her designs needlepoint and/or
cross stitch?

Thanks for any and all info.

Susan no longer owns the shop in Calif. but the shop is still there. If you
contact them thay will be able to help you with Susan's designs. Susan is no
longer designing but doing stitch guides.
The shop is My Friend & Eye In Huntington Beach Calif. Don't have the number
right now but they have an 800 #

Susan is still teaching for My Friend and Eye in Huntington Beach, CA, and also
teaches for Aristeia in Los Angeles. Both shops carry her designs as far as I
know.

I have done Odyssey, and i have "A Series of Saints" I think the choice of
design should be made based on your sense of style. Her designs vary
somewhat in style. Also, be creative enough to see past the colors on the
front and try a different color scheme. When I did Odyssey, I went to a
slightly rosier shade of pink than any of her alternate color schemes and
it worked out well (also we were doing this as an EGA chapter project, and
I didn't want mine to look like anyone else's.)

I don't understand why a group would have everyone do the same project!'
It is understandable that the same stitches would be learned, but with
all of the choices out there for charts, why have the underlying
conflict of comparison??? Not necessary I think,,,,,, Kindred spirit,

In the front of Spirit of the Southwest (which I started last week in
the deep sea blue colours) it says that Susan owns My Friend and Eye
Needlepoint in Huntington Beach.
The address is given as:
Susan Porta Designs
2209 1/2 Pacific Coast Highway
Lomita, California 90717
(310) 534-5570 fax (310) 544-6031

I bought my copy in Seattle where I was told that this type of
needlepoint, i.e. not on painted canvas, is not popular in that part of
the country.
