Well, yes.

There was a discussion on this group sometime back about
that....someone (I think it was Lesa from Stitcher's Source, but I
could be wrong) posted a note she got from DMC, giving their
reasons....
The biggest reason was environmental rule changes....with the EU
"taking over" all of Europe, the environmental protection laws in
France changed, and in order to abide by the new laws, the dye process
and stuffs had to change.
I'm not sure that I would call it "incorrect", just different, and
perhaps not as good, but there's not much we can do about it, except
switch to Anchor (does Anchor have a good selection of greys?)

Today at Joann's, I completed my DMC collection. I deliberately took a
look at the 415's I was amazed at how blue it was. So I rummaged through
to the bottom of the bin and voila! I found 3 skeins of the old 415. I'd
be willing to part with up to two of them. If you still haven't found any,
e-mail your snail mail address to me and I'll send some to you.

Also if anyone would like a list of the color changes I have them on a
file and would be happy to send them to you.

Renee,
I have some old 415... i'd be more than willing to part with it to
help you out.. you are just down the trans-canada from me, so rather
close, i can mail it off very quickly, or ahve a friend drop it off...
let me know
Well, I got my first taste of the DMC color change fiasco. A panda bear
pattern called for 413, greyish blue, which I bought and used. I THOUGHT
it looked too blue, and when I ran out and started a new (older) skein,
it was definitely more gray. I wonder how long it will be before (if
ever) pattern makers revise their charts?
Victoria
I had this problem a while back when I was working on Donna Vermilion
Giampa's beautiful "Isaiah 40:31" eagle. I asked her what to do and she
wrote back the following. I've edited it slightly (hope that's ok Donna)
to make it more general. I wonder if this isn't something that maybe
should go in the FAQ, as it is frequently asked.
Quoting from Donna-
The new DMC colors are definitely "bluer" than they used to be as well as
slightly darker. The old grays seemed to make a more subtle blend than
the new ones.
One option is to switch over to the other gray series, the 645's group,
although 762 may still be needed because the other group below doesn't
have that pale a shade. (BWS note: I found much less difference in the
old and new 762's also.)
Here is a list of suggested alternatives.
413 use 844 or 645
317 use 646
414 use 647
318 use 648
415 use 648+3072
762 use 3072+white
If 413 is used for BS, then probably 844 would be best. As suggested
above, blending the two lightest replacements may most closely match the
olding group's degrees of shading.
Also, you could blend 1 strand of the new bluer colors listed above with
1 strand of the color in the list that replaces it.
You may also blend one strand of the old dyelot with one of the new, if
you still have any left of the old colors, but not enough of the old to
complete the design.
It wouldn't be worth going over to Anchor or JP Coats because neither
has a better match, IMO.
Good luck in solving this problem. If this helps you and you want to
post any of these suggestions, you have my permission. I imagine many
stitchers are struggling with this color change and trying to figure out
what to do. Hopefully, these newest DMC dyelots will remain in use for
many years, even if we've lost some of our old favorites. This is one
little price we stitchers have had to pay to protect the enviornment.
Who'd have thought it would be this troublesome??
End of quote from Donna.
I solved the problem by getting my hands on some of the "old" greys,
thanks to Nancy Shaidell of this newsgroup. But soon that won't be an
option.
Happy stitching,
Beverly

The numbers are in the FAQ, under the DMC entry. But the list of

I tried to e-mail and bounced. How much do you need? I have about
2.5 skeins. I would be devestated if I couldn't finish a piece
because of this, so you are welcome to it if you still need it!

Time and atherosclerosis wait for no one.
Funny you should ask. We had a little DMC Color Card comparison
session at the last meeting of our stitch group here in Ottawa.
(Hi, group! :) I have the cards that you do, and they have the
old grays. There are two newer complete cards, though. The
newest one has the new grays, and the other one has the old grays.
I can't remember how to tell the difference at the moment,
but maybe Cathy or Kenora would like to jump in here and
remind me. :)
-- Cheryl (whe...@bnr.ca)
Yes, they have a new updated master card with 390 colors. I like this
much better as the 3800 series is mixed in to the color families where
they belong, much better than the separate update swatches.
ClothWorld puts them on sale whenever the cross-stitch accessories are
on sale (JoAnns, New York Fabrics in other parts of the country).
Happy stitching,
Lynne, waiting on her new Anchor swatch book from the local needlework
shop!!!

Hi Cheryl! As I recall, I have the 360 card with the 30 insert, and I have
the old grays. Cathy has the complete 390 card and hers has the new grays.
Almost makes me want to pick up a newer one just to have old and new grays
on hand!
Hope this helps!

I purchased one a couple of months ago, and it did have the 3800 series of
colors and the greys reflected the recent dye changes.
