Cross stitch books and patterns
Gertie Wandel, Klassiske Korssting, Politikens Forlag, 1971, 246pp.
Hundreds of traditional Danish sampler motifs, charted for Danish
Flower Thread. Gertie Wandel, Vor Tids Korssting, Politikens Forlag,
1972, 239pp. Both small hardbacks. Cross stitch patterns by
designers from the Danish Handcraft Guild, including Gerda Bengtsson,
Ida Winckler and Edith Hansen. Both VG condition. I am selling them
as a set for $50.
Kalender 1970 Haandarbejdets Fremme. 1970 cross stitch calendar from the
Danish Handcraft Guild. Spiral bound with soft cover. Contains
12 designs of animals by Ruth Christensen; they are in naive art style.

Kalender 1993 Haandarbejdets Fremme. 1993 cross stitch calendar from the
Danish Handcraft Guild. Spiral bound with soft cover. Contains
12 designs of Danish birds by Mads Stage. Some of the most beautiful
Danish cross stitch I have seen. Larger designs than the 1970
calendar. Unused. $30
Drawn and pulled thread work
DMC Library Drawn Thread Work.. Soft cover. 55 pages of instructions
plus 20 black and white plates. Split at lower spine; otherwise good
condition. Bibliotheque DMC Jours sur Toile II Serie (French language).
Soft cover with cloth spine. 11 pages of instructions plus 32 plates,
mainly in black and white. Good condition. Both volumes ed. Th. de
Dillmont, Mulhouse. Undated, early 1900s. This is the first and second
series of the famous DMC Drawn Thread Work publications. $35 each or $60
for the set
DMC Library Openwork Embroidery , New Edition (Revised), 1974, 10 pages
of instructions plus 20 black and white plates. Wide range of
designs for openwork embroidery - mainly drawn thread and Hardanger-type
(kloster blocks with needleweaving), but also some pulled
thread. Features many Eastern European (Slovakian, Ukrainian etc) types
of openwork. VG condition. $35
Clara Wæver, Sammentræksmonstre II. Undated, probably 1960s, 12pp. Large
format soft cover booklet. Patterns and instructions for
Danish pulled thread work. Minimal text; can be followed without
knowledge of Danish. Good condition. $10
S. Lawergren, Bottensommar (Drawn Threadwork), Malmo, 1950s, 20pp. Large
format soft cover. Swedish drawn and pulled thread work. Text
in both Swedish and English. A bit creased and worn; some marks. $7
Riuska Sirkka-Lissa, Pohja-Ompelua, Helsinki, 1955, 106pp. Smallish soft
cover. Finnish pulled thread book. Unlike the Danish and Swedish
books, this doesn't show designs for projects; rather it is a compendium
of pulled thread stitches. Taped at spine, but overall good
condition. $15
Hardanger
DMC Library Hardanger Embroideries 1st and 2nd Series, New Edition
(Revised) (1966 and 1971 respectively). Both large format soft cover.
The 1st series has 11 pages of instructions and 35 black and white
plates; the 2nd series has 9 pages of instructions and 25 black and
white plates. The two volumes of the DMC Hardanger series, first
published about one hundred years ago. Both G/VG condition. I am selling
the set for $40.
Hildergarde Iserlohe, Hardanger Meisterstucke (Hardanger Masterpieces),
Rosenheim, 1991, 72pp. Small hardcover. German Hardanger book
with photographs of many contemporary Hardanger designs. There are no
charts, but there are good close-ups and if you have already done
some Hardanger work you should not have any problem reproducing the
embroideries from the photos. $12
The Anchor Book of Hardanger Embroidery, 1997, 128pp. Small soft cover.
Part of the Anchor series of small books on different types of
needlework. Very clear and comprehensive instructions, together with a
range of charted designs for borders, motifs and complete projects.
Crease on cover, otherwise new. $3

Heidi Haupt-Battaglia, Let's Embroider, London, 1960, 200pp. Hardback.
English translation of a Swiss book originally published in two
volumes. Presents unusual and attractive examples of counted thread
work, some based on Swiss medieval and renaissance embroidery. VG
condition. $35
Heidi Haupt-Battaglia, Practical Embroidery. I Mats, Cloths and Runners,
Newton Centre MA, 1968, 164pp. Hardback. English version of
another Swiss book by this author. Presents many attractive designs,
with instructions, for table linens. Mainly satin stitch, drawn and
pulled thread. VG condition. $35
Elizabeth Prickett, Ruskin Lace & Linen Work, self-published, 1997
(first pub. 1985), 119pp. The definitive book on Ruskin work technique.
This is the spiral bound edition, which lies open flat for easy use. New
condition. $30
Oenone Cave, Cut-Work Embroidery and How to Do It, Dover softcover
edition of book originally published in 1963, 90pp. The other standard
work on Ruskin work. The cover is coming away from the contents at the
spine. The book has also (neatly) been covered with adhesive
plastic. $3
Magazines and small booklets
Needlecraft Practical Journal No. 12, Decorative Needlework, English
needlework journal from c.1920s. Large format, 14 pages of
instructions, line drawings etc. Free style embroidery in the Art
Needlework style. The outer wrapper (consisting of title page plus ads)
is
missing and the magazine is a bit yellow, but otherwise the condition is
good. $8
Victoria and Albert Museum, Flowers in English Embroidery, Second
Impression, 1967. Brief introduction followed by 26 black and white
photographic plates showing floral embroideries. $5
Needlework at Parham Park, 30pp. Guide booklet concerning the
embroideries in the collection at Parham Park, said to be the finest
needlework collection of any house in England. Descriptive text plus 6
colour photographs. $3
