I just received this email has anyone else? Will you be wearing red next
Friday?

>Please wear red on Friday

The Americans who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not
"organized" to reflect who we are, nor to reflect what our opinions are. We
would like to start a grass roots movement using the membership of the
Special Operations Association, and Special ForcesAssociations, and all
their friends, simply, to recognize that Americans support our troops.

We need to inform the local VFW's and American Legion, our local press,
local TV, and continue carrying the message to the national levels as we
begin to get this going. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for
our troops is - - -
Starting Friday, and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is
over, that every red- blooded American who supports our young men and women,
WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on
any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a
University.

If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow
workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before
the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many
people thinking of their well-being.

Let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

I sent this out to everyone on my email list; hopefully, you will too.

Please forward this to everyone you know!!

I like this idea. Thanks for passing it along M-C.

We actually already have red Fridays in Kansas City. It's for a much
different purpose though. The Friday before a Chiefs home game most of
the city can be found in something red. I like your idea better though.
I never have been a fan of football let alone the chiefs.

Your post on this and everyone elses brought tears to my eyes tonight. I
really love and appreciate this group. DH will be leaving for Iraq in the
next few months and I have been having a hard time coping and was depressed.
He goes back to work tomorrow to train for the desert.
It is easy as a military spouse to feel alone when the politicians are
talking about this war as if it is a game of chess. It is always a
wonderful thing to hear that a civilian supports and appreciates the troops
and understands the sacrifice the military make to honor freedom and
democracy--if not only in our country, but in others as well.
I will be wearing red on Friday.
Thank you MC!

Hugs, Jacki, some of us also appreciate the sacrifice that is made by the
spouse of service personnel. We'll all be here to keep you all cheered up
and scrappy while he is away and I'll pray every night for his safe return.

I come from a long line of Veterans of Foreign Wars and have a cousin,
currently stationed in Korea who is coming home on leave at the end of
the month. At the end of his leave he is being redeployed to Iraq.
Also I have two nephews in the Oregon National Guard who will be
deployed to Iraq in the coming months.

Personally I think supporting our troops needs to go beyond wearing
red on Fridays or sticking a yellow ribbon magnet on cars.

Veterans Hospitals are underfunded and understaffed and volunteers are
desperately needed.

Care packages sent to the troops serving in the war containing such
items as shampoo, razors, batteries, prepaid phone cards, etc. are
greatly needed and very much appreciated.

Many families of Guard and Reserve members are subjected to huge
financial hardships when family members are deployed and redeployed.
Contact your local veteran organizations to find out how/where you can
make financial donations to help those families with the costs of
food, utilities, clothing, housing, etc.

Thanks for all the info Marcia. Each of those is a great idea and I've
actually done what's on your list recently except for the volunteering part.
I'll have to look into that! I used to go to the Veterans Hospital
regularly when I lived in Montreal but haven't with the 6 moves in the last
7 years. I used to sing in the Xmas pagent that my Regiment put on for the
veterans as well as sing for the members of the legion every week. It really
was rewarding and it was a lot of fun!

Thanks Marcia,
There are many injured military who are coming into the military hospitals
with nothing but the shirts on their backs and what little else they have.
Some things they could need are calling cards, books, cards, t shirts,
shorts, sweats, socks, portable music players and headphones, along with
other stuff like that.
Hope this is an addition.
