As you know I sprained my ankle about 4 weeks ago and it's slow going, but
it's getting better. My daughter's class was going on a walking intensive
field trip. I have volunteered for every field trip for both my children up
till now, but I knew I couldn't do this one. Finally, the teacher says
there aren't enough drivers and she noticed I hadn't volunteered. I told
her I could drive the kids up, but under no circumstances could I walk them
around. She said that would be fabulous and that she would spread my kids
out among the other groups. Everyone was SO worried I'd get bored. HA! I
brought my new Scrapping Magazine, which I purposely didn't look at. I then
brought all the makings for some paper piecings I needed to finish for a
swap. I brought my comfy folding chair, a TV tray and my ice chest full of
my favorite iced down drinks. I think I probably looked like quite the
princess. I thoroughly enjoyed my magazine in the quiet of the forest.
Then I did my paper piecings with some chalking.

A technique I read about in the CK mag was heat embossing chalking on a
page. It looked really nice! The colors were vibrant and almost water
color like. I wondered how on earth it was done, but it came with
directions. Do your chalking, sprinkle with clear embossing powder and then
heat from underneath. Add more embossing powder until it's as shiny as you
want. They even bent theirs to cause a crinkle effect.

Hey Lynne,

You know, right after I read that from you, I was reading the new
issue of CK mag and it's in there... that technique I mean... Exactly
as you described :) Thanks for the "advanced preview" :)

Sounds like a great idea, when you can't walk around, but want to help on
the field trip. Did any wild animals come to help you make the paper
piecing. :-)

I saw a couple lizards that we're starting to get a bit too friendly, so I
stamped a foot in their direction and they moved on. hehe

You should have used them to hold down your paper in case of a breeze. :-)

Sounds like you had a nice relaxing day while still feeling like you was
part of you childs field trip even though you couldn't walk around.
