I saw some of you gals mention the Fly lady and so I decided to check out her
site. I am a person who has fallen in a rut and as a consequence my house is
always in clutter. I never could get motivated...and it was just all too
overwhelming. But I decided to sign up with her....she is great! I am on my
4th day now...and I just LOVE my shiny sink :-) The rest of my house may be in
dissaray, but my sink is shining back at me and my bed is neatly made. At first
I thought she was insane telling me to shine my sink, and get dressed...ugh,
when I have no where to go? and make my bed...who is going to see it anyway?
But I said ok, I would play along...she did say no excuses. I must say...there
is a reason for the insanity...LOL. After 3 days of my sink gleaming back at
me so nicley....I noticed...my countertops looked so sad standing next to such
a pretty sink, and so today...I took everything off the countertop.....scrubbed
it down...scrubbed everything ( including inside of coffee machine, and the
workings of the can opener, that was a unique experience! ) and put everything
back. It looks so nice! The cleanliness is growing. Next it will be the oven
and refrigerator...then the cleanliness will move to the floor, and oh my who
knows where from then. I am just so happy with such a small
accomplishment...now we will see if I can keep it up. But with her program I am
finding it easier to do the up keep. Anyway.....after such a long rant I sound
like a commercial for her...LOL. I really only wanted to thank you girls for
talking about it here...for without you I would not have known about her, and
would not have known how much joy I would get out of my shiny sink :-)

I think you should send this testimony to the FlyLady. Looks like she is
truly accomplishing what she set out to do. Hummmmm maybe a shiny sink is
the answer to IT all !!

Good for you!!!
I had a shiny sink for a few days, but not now.
But tomorrow Matthew is back in school so it is
"back to work" for me! I have no idea how people
can be a mom and work, and keep a clean house!!!
It's all I can do to be the mom and the housekeeper!
I don't have time for a full time job! haha
Working moms, you have my respect!! It was easy back
before I had kids!!
Mickie
PS email me privately at audr...@home.com if you want to
have a "fly lady buddy"!!

I am planning on going to work on the 20 ( working at my daughter's school. It
will be the first time I have worked in a long time. I am really looking
forward to it. I actually think it will be easier for me to keep the house
clean when I am working as opposed to staying home. When I stay home I just
have no desire to clean at all, no desire to get up and get motivated. Also my
daughter and I are the only ones home the majority of the time and so we make
the majority of the messes. It is just that I let things go until they become
an overwhelming chore. Since I will be working, and my daughter will be in
school ( same hours ) it will just be me keeping up with the work as I go.
Shining my sink and making my bed before work in the a.m. and cleaning up the
bathroom as I get ready. I don't know, I may change my mind...so don't hold me
to anything...LOL. I do know that I have gotten in the habit of just not
keeping up with the housework, and this has been a habit that I have worked
very hard over the last several years to build...LOL, but the fly lady is
helping me to create new habits. I needed someone to layout exactly what I
need to do...so this is wonderful for me.

Anyway...on and on I go again...LOL
Ok Mickie, why is you sink not shiny? hmmmm? no excuses remember? lol

Ok, what's the fly lady? It sounds like someone I need! What I really want
is a maid...the kind that cooks and cleans. But if someone can motivate me
to do that, I'll take that instead!

Go to http://www.flylady.net it is basically an e-mail group....you get sent
several reminders of what needs to be done each day. Don't worry, they are easy
things to do, it just helps to create good habits, and keeping up with your
house and decluttering your home. :-)

OK, I admit it. I'm a Flylady dropout. I got tired just keeping up with
her messages. If I took the time to go do the thing every time she sent me
a message, I'd never get dinner cooked or the dishes washed or the grocery
shopping done. I did learn a few things. And I agree that keeping the sink
shiny and making the bed makes you feel like you've accomplished something!
Maybe I'll give it another try, AFTER I've cleaned and organized my house so
I can keep up with all the messages!

When I worked full time, I found that since everyone was out of the house
all day, there was less to clean, such as dishes, and picking up toys, and I
didn't have to sweep the kitchen twice a day, etc! BUT I got way behind on
things like laundry and weekly scrubbing.

So I guess there are the good points and the not so good points.
Congrats on going back to work! You'll have alot of fun!!

My sink isn't shiny because I decided to take the weekend off. Nope, no
excuses,
just a decision. I guess I am a little stubborn. haha

haha I guess the messages were designed for stay at home people, because
they come all day! She says that once she gets the system changed over,
everyone won't be inundated with the emails. I think you'll be able to
select a level of interest or something.
In the meantime, just hit delete for the ones that don't pertain! (that's
what I did ALL weekend!) It's my deal with myself that I take weekends off
and get back on it faithfully during the week. I have the same theory about
my diet. Makes weekends fun! :)

Maybe that's it, I'd come home to a whole slew of messages about stuff I
should be doing and they'd just keep coming. I was way behind every day
before I started!

Azzy, she changed my life!!! I was skeptical, too! I have every
organizational tool known to woman, and of course it's done no good at all.
I have always understood the concept of
"A place for everything and everything in its place," BUT, never ever knew
how to get it all in its place to begin with, since there was so much
stuff!!!

Here's a hint to stick with the program. STAY SMALL!!! Do not try to do
too much at once, you'll just overwhelm yourself. BABY STEPS, FlyLady says
that ALL the time! I'm still growing in my routines...add one thing at a
time!

So glad you're loving that shiny sink!

You do not have to keep up with all the messages! You delete the ones
you're not paying attention to. For instance, if you just started out, you
pay attention to the shine your sink and where are your shoes messages, and
delete everything else. Then, as you start to add things to your routine,
you have those messages, and you delete everything else.

I have 37 unread FlyLady messages right now because I have had company all
weekend, and I am going to go into my FlyLady folder, and delete them all,
UNREAD!!! Ah, the freedom to do that!

Anyway, that's what works fo rme.

Joana...I promise I'm giving her a try, too! No, I've not exactly
done anything she's suggested, but I'm impressed with the amount of
work you can get done just following her suggestions.

Actually, though, I just got a jump-start on my house-cleaning...dh
finally found out on Friday that the company found someone to
replace him at his farm, so he's being promoted to another...which
means we'll move to the house on the other farm.

The best part about it is that the family in the other house has
already moved (so they could be in their other house before school
started for the kids), so our new house is currently sitting empty!
They got the rest of their stuff out on Saturday, so we went over
Saturday night to look things over, measure rooms, etc. They will
still be there cleaning in the evenings this week, but it's almost
ready to paint! And do I mean PAINT!! Every room in the house needs
painted!!!

The company is replacing the carpet before we move in, so dh & I
have already picked out paint chips and planned the painting
process. I have to go to Sherwin Williams on lunch today to talk to
them about our best options with primer vs. KILZ stain killer
(yes...the spare bathroom is hot pink and royal blue!) I'll probably
go ahead and buy most of the paint then as well (thank God for our
tax check...He sure knows how to provide!) We'll spend Thursday and
Friday nights in the house prepping for paint, then all day Saturday
doing the master bedroom and bath. (I'm going to be picky
there...want to get creative with paint treatments, so I have to do
it myself!)

Then, we're inviting all our friends and family over for a paint
party the following Saturday...just asking them to bring any rags,
step ladders, etc. they have. We'll provide all the rollers, etc. as
well as lunch and dinner on the grill and snacks throughout the day.
Anyone who wants to come back the following week can help powerwash
the house, deck, and garage.....there's a lot of work to do!!

My main thing is that I MUST get the painting done before the new
carpet comes! I love to paint, but am rather sloppy at it! And this
way...we can be as sloppy as we want!

Anyway...back to the organization of things...dh and I ran to
Wal-mart last night and stocked up on Sterlite plastic
containers...the size we want (and color - yes, I color-code my
organization system) were a great price! We bought 10 of the huge
ones!! And we've already been through one spare bedroom and are
halfway done with the other...not exactly packing yet, just
de-cluttering! We loaded the truck with all our old school stuff
(that we haven't touched in the four years since graduation) and
other trash. It's now burning! I've got a car-ful of stuff to take
to Goodwill, as well.

No, my house is still a mess! BUT...you can now walk through the
spare bedrooms, and things are organized there. Now it will be so
much easier to pack! It feels so good to get it organized, and all
before my mom comes to help pack (now that's a nightmare waiting to
happen!)!!! Who knows...maybe once we move and I start out with a
fresh, clean pallet, I can actually do what FLYLADY is telling me to
do, and keep up with it!!

Oh, goodness...sorry this has gotten so long! I'm just so excited
about this!! And don't worry...I'm going to go through the house and
garage on Thursday night before we do anything to capture my
'before' pictures!! We're not building a cool house from the ground,
but making lots of improvements in the decorating here, so yes, I'm
going to make an "Our New House" album!!

Thanks for bearing with me!

Yes...Kajira...we all have preferences! I'm sure Patty (yes, I know
the woman!) was proud of her hot pink sponge painting and hot pink
and royal plue stamping on the walls at one point in time...but it
IS time for a change! Wait a minute...that's what the next family
will say about my blue and yellow rubber ducky bathroom!!! LOL!!

I'd love it :) If I could paint my bathroom it would still be white but
with duckies or stripes or something very primary to go with my Sesame
Street theme :) (I still don't have kids but I love going potty looking at
Ernie in his tub)

I totally understand!!! I love bright, whimsical bathrooms. I really
wanted to do hand-painted flowers or bugs or something, but dh
couldn't see my "vision"! I love the flower thing...lots of purple,
yellow, and teal. But dh reminded me that here we are, trying to get
pregnant...if we end up with a house full of boys, a purple flowered
bathroom would not be a great idea!

So, I settled on blue and yellow rubber duckies, but I'm still
painting the wall in stripes!!! (No matter what dh says!)

I love to paint and try new things, can you tell???
