Ever since I found out about these I've been intrigued. I have been working
on making a good looking baby shaker for my kid's albums and I think I
finally got it. I had done some leaving the outside plain, but they just
looked like them needed something. So, last night I tried using my
Versamark stamp pad, which is supposed to give the paper a water mark look.
It didn't show up on the paper! I rushed into my supplies and got out the
Pearl Ex powder and stipple brush and dove in and I really like the effect.

Look in "Other Paper Crafts" section. Pictures are blurry and I need some
help on how to correct that. I tried zooming in, I tried getting close, I
tried standing closer and zooming a little and the camera just would get a
good focus on them. Any ideas?

Lynne, the shaker boxes look great! I too have used the Pearl Ex powder
with the versa mark. I have found though, on dark paper I can't get all the
Pearl Ex powder off. Though it might have to do with using a "face powder"
brush instead of a stipple brush. I'll have to try that.

Did you use the foam tape all the way around the baby shoes? Again, really
cute...

did you use double sided tape or foam core??? I can't see using double sided
with all those curves but they are beautiful!

I didn't get all the Pearl Ex off the paper either, but it being blue and
pink paper it didn't matter as much. I was using a stipple brush for this
project. I used foam tape all around the bottom of the shoes. I just like
the shaker beads to show since I am going to put them in my albums and there
won't be much shaking going on. The upper portion just had a square of foam
tape in each corner.

Did your versamark and Pearl Ex still wipe off the next day? I'm wondering
does it ever set up so it doesn't rub off.

I just use the double sided for just the bottom portion. I don't want the
beads to slip past foam core. Some are really tiny, but have a really nice
look.

Lynne, they look really nice! As for getting close - do you have a setting
on your camera for close ups - I think it's usually a little flower icon.
If you have this and you put your camera on that setting, you can put your
camera the appropriate distance (see manual) away from the object and it
will focus. If you don't have that setting I don't know what to tell you.

Lynn,
I love the baby shaker boxes. They are one of my favorite things. I ordered
me some of tose templets like you have from Accucut. I can hardly wait for
them to get here.
Keep up the good work. The shoes are awesome.

I eventually sprayed with a fixative. Still rubs off a little but not as
bad, though it's good to know that I'm not the only one having problems like
that!
Wonder if heat setting would help?

These are so cute, Lynne!

Question - somewhere-I-don't-remember-where, I saw instructions for these
where they used craft foam instead of the foam tape or foam core - they cut
out their "inside frame" from the craft foam and then ran it thru a Xyron on
both sides. Has anyone ever tried this? Does it work?

Although, I don't really use much foam tape, so I'm not feeling the pinch
yet.

I've done a Kaleidoscope of a flower picture I loved, but in Kaleidoscope
form it didn't look very good. So, I'm thinking the photo choosing is going
to be difficult. For some reason I really like the Statue of Liberty sample
photos they let us use. My next one I think I'll use one of the kids. Like
I have one with my daughter with a flower in her hair. I'll let you know
how it goes. My color printer is not working and I'm trying to figure out
how to get it going again.

I don't know if the directions to the Kaleidoscope template says this tip or
not, but he told us in class to use a dry erase pen to draw the outline and
key points of the picture on the template so you can line it up on each
photo in the exact some spot. Works really well. Then wipe off and ready
for next picture.

I was reading about this just last night in "Memerory Makers Scrapbooking
Top 50 . The top products, trends & techniques. Number 42" Page 69, this
has to do with using Versamark stamping ink. In a nutshell it says after
stamping with the versamark "heat set stamped images for approximately 30
seconds. Apply pigment powder with brush. Use clean bursh to remove excess
pigment powder."

Hope this helps. I tried it this morning after getting home from work this
morning and works much better!!

I've only done one kaleidoscope but want to do more. I found it rather easy to
do. Of course I chose the one with only 3 pics facing each way. Choosing a
picture that works is the hardest part. The one I did was of my ddil showing
one of the miniature horses. She was standing in front of the horse facing her
and both handler and horse were sideview. I was pleased with the results and
used it for the title page of that album.

OK went to the office supply and I think I bought a lifetime supply of foam
tape. It seemed like a lot of money, but it is SO much cheaper by the yard
this way. The smaller amounts of foam tape I had been buying were twice as
much per yard.

I used to use the foam tape for my shaker boxes. Sometimes I wouldn't get
the cut just right and glass beads that I had used as a filling would come
out. Then I switched to the foam (3mm thick) sheets. I cut my shape and then
cut the center from the inside and have no problems with the glass beads
falling out. It's a lot cheaper too. One big sheet is only $1.50!
I use a liquid glue to attach the foam to the back and front.
