regarding all of the items for sale. Although I am not a fan of ads on
newsgroups (they actually are not allowed on many), it would so help if
everyone would mark their posts that are selling items as such. I myself
posted an ebay announcement about a grabbag of stamps for sale.

Could we all continue to clearly indicate that the post is offering
something for sale? Not all of us can get to the ng every day (not for lack
of desire), and when we have many posts to look at, I'd love to be able to
skip the ads and get to the stamping.

I know that the for sale announcements will continue, and marking them as
such would be a help, for me at least, and possibly others.

I joined the list to increase my knowledge of stamping, which is somewhat
lacking, and saw that today 15 notes were posted. Of these, 8 were offering
something for sale. Only 2 were marked as such in the title. So I took a
quick look hoping to learn something new about certain stamps or companies,
but they were ads. What I did learn though, is how to approach a
convention. I will be going to my first in August, so I printed the tips to
remind me as the time draws closer.

So, that said, I would encourage anyone who doesn't have The Artist's Way to
get it. I have the book, journal and tapes, and they really are terrific.

I'm ready for the onslaught of wrath...it's okay, I can take it. I'm an
attorney after all.

Oh, Lika, nobody should give you any guff about this post..... I thought it was
"required" that if you're advertising, you TELL people you're advertising.
People who DON'T put it in their subject line are bugging more people than just
you and me.... surely!!!
I'm with you on this one.

Thank you Lika for your post reminding sellers to mark their messages. I
too have a limited amount of time to visit this newsgroup and enjoy the tips
and stamping discussions and would like to avoid the advertisements.

Could I also ask that commercial posters tell us whether they ship
outside USA. I am one of probably hundreds of overseas users of this
group and I tend to ignore ALL the commercials because I don't know
which are any use to me. And as all the best stamping stuff seems to
come from the States I must be missing out on some great deals!

It is annoying to open a message and find, yet again, that it's just
another repeated advertisement. I too joined this group hoping to learn from
it. Thank you for the instructions on your site for making envelopes.

I also feel rather spammed by all the adverts on this message board. It used
to be less hard sell and more personal. Is there a place for all the ads
elsewhere, perhaps, or are we simply too irresistible for all the vendors?

I have a little difference of opinion on this one...
I personally have discovered some great sites via the AD's that are placed
here and on other boards I frequent. I think this board is about the only
UseNet board for rubberstamping that is available and therefore the general
nature of the posts.

I DO agree that they should be marked as such both to allow them to be
skipped and, on shopping days, to be spotted.

Somewhere in the bowels of the 'Net (well, actually, at
ftp://ftp.uu.net/usenet/news.announce.newgroups/rec/rec.crafts.rubberstamps),
you can read the charter that established this newsgroup. In part, it
says:

"Postings from vendors advertising their products and sales are welcome
provided they announce the word vendor in the subject line of their
posting."

So, yes, by charter, rec.crafts.rubberstamps is open to relevant
commercial posts, as long as they're labeled.

In actual practice, the words "AD," "COMM" or "FORSALE", included in the
Subject: line, seem to be as acceptable as "vendor," and far more
common.

I like having access to vendors here, as well, but it would be nice if
they'd remember to label their posts.

There are a lot of ads on the board, too, and a lot are from the same people. If
people could label them, that would be great so people who want to skip them
can, those who don't can see them. (That way everyone's happy)

I have seen references to this book before in different groups, but
nobody ever says what is in it.

Please tell me what is so good about it? Why do you like it (i.e. is it
inspirational or instructional or both)?
Do the books and the tapes cover the same material?

It's INSPIRATIONAL. It will bring out things from deep within you that you
never knew existed -- ways of creative thinking and being. WONDERFUL!

The tapes do, of course, cover the same material, but in an abridged form.
They are kind of like booster shots for me. I throw them in in the car, or
in the office, or when I feel the ned to be inspired.

Here's the blurb from amazon.com:

"With the basic principle that creative expression is the natural
direction of life, Julia Cameron and Mark Bryan lead you through a
comprehensive twelve-week program to recover your creativity from a
variety of blocks, including limiting beliefs, fear, self-sabotage,
jealousy, guilt, addictions, and other inhibiting forces, replacing them
with artistic confidence and productivity.

"This book links creativity to spirituality by showing how to connect
with the creative energies of the universe, and has, in the four years
since its publication, spawned a remarkable number of support groups
for artists dedicated to practicing the exercises it contains"

Personally, I found it a little, um, cosmic for my tastes; I tend to be
skeptical of books that launch "movements." But I do know a number of
people who've found it very inspiring, particularly if they were new to
journaling and similar exercises for flexing your creative muscles.

Another fine writer who writes about freeing the creative spirit is
Natalie Goldberg. "Writing Down the Bones" and "Wild Mind" got my juices
flowing at a time when I was in a slump.

And I still have a copy of it for sale!! Hard
cover, dust jacket, looks from the numbers on the inside like it's a first
edition, but I'm not sure. $25.00 plus 3.30 priority mail, or I could mail
book rate. One only!

I agree - some days I feel like shopping, others not. When I can't get
here for long periods of time, I hate having to to go through the same ads
over and over. I support on-line vendors and not having stamp stores in
my area, I use them a lot. My one list group only allows one ad per day
per vendor and it MUST be marked "COMM". We need that option.
Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a moderator here to enforce this.
Pat? You are the most knowledgeable, is that correct?

That's correct (thought I'd question the "most knowledgeable" bit!).
This newsgroup is unmoderated, there are no rules beyond the charter and
common, everyday netiquette, and it's up to the participants to police
their own behavior.

I totally agree...I had over 100 messages on this newsgroup (after being gone
for two days), and was getting discouraged to open up posts that were for
articles being offered on e-bay or being sold without being marked in the
subject. I also should have learned that when the same person posted 3 and 4
times in a row that it would be repeats of the same type of message...just
different merchandise. On some groups, you are only allowed to advertise once a
day. I will take the rash of comments, also, Lika, as it sure takes a long time
to go through a list--especially on newsgroups when you can't delete the
messages and have to go through and open each one. Sue N.

Lika,

If you don't want the ads you see, then go to
onelist and there you will find a lot of stamping groups that share nothing
but ideas. I am in a few of them myself and they are all soooo wonderful.

One of the great ones I belong to is below.

Thanks. I'm on several lists, and the ads that are I am referring to are
those that are not marked as such. I need to buy stuff, too, so there are
times when I look for the ads. But I just would like them marked as such so
I can skip them or not.
