Just a kind word of advice - even though a co. might be listed as
"angel" on one of these lists it doesn't necessarily mean you have
free use of their images. I had an art/craft sale in my backyard a
couple of weeks ago and used many different stamp mfr's images and got
to know more than I wanted to about their different policies.

I would suggest using the "angel" list as a starting point, then, if
they have one, go to the individual stamp co. sites and see what their
specific policy is - some want to know exactly what you are doing with
their images, how many you are making, in what venue are you selling,
etc... some even want a sample or a color copy of what you are making.
Keep in mind, that even after all this, they consider themselves
"angel" companies. However, some "angel" co.'s let you have total
free use of their images - don't care what you do with them. So, as
you can see, there is a wide range of "angel" co. definitions.

All of the co.'s I contacted via phone were very, very appreciative
that I was respecting their copyright policy - all were very
cooperative and let me use their images as long as they were not
mass-produced. PSX has an electronic form you fill out and e-mail
back, I got their approval the same day. Of course, someone else may
have a different experience depending on what they are making and how
many.

It was alot of work doing so, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

"The Angel Company" solves all your problems! We carry our exclusive The
Angel Company line, and Mabelle Ro-Ortiz, as well as 25 other companies.
There are NO problems with copyright, limits on amount you make or anything,
as long as they are hand made. You don't have to ask permission, fill out
forms, submit your work, or anything, like many "angel" companies require.

Good luck on your search! On your list, I see many that really AREN"T angel
companies, such as PSX. I can't recall the rest right off the top of my
head.

I demonstrate for Impressive Stamps and we are an angel company. Have no
fear of the copyright police. Our policy is very simple, make it by hand,
and not more of 20 of the exact same thing. (I am bored after 10 anyway.)
Stop by my website and take a look around. http://members.aol.com/mzahn97

Sorry Queen you are wrong on the psx thing!!
they are very much a angel company as long as you write and ask for
permission and give them a list of what stamps
you are using they give permission any of there stamps are allowed.... as
long as it is truly hands stamped and not machine produced and as long you
are the stamper not someone you hire to help mass produce....itsas simple as
that!
I know as I have done this and I do use there stamps
more than anyones. most companies are like this
some dont need a list but some just need to be sent
an email..... and then they send you a permission letter.

Even such co's as "stamps by judith" that says absolutly not!
I spoke with judith at our trade show here in mn just a few
weeks ago.... and she told me that certain stamps are going
to be released... -probably not publicly but for those that
ask.... but none of the really cute animal ones etc.... as they
are copyrighted by a different company and she no longer
has those rights to them. I asked the question and was totally shocked to
here her say this... as I expected a huge
NO!!

but it just goes to show you , you never know till you ask!!

I am just curious if anyone out there has actually had any lawsuits brought
against them for selling cards made with stamps that were not from an angel
company. Is it really that common for companies to find out someone used
their stamp to make a card that was sold?

I guess a lot of it depends on your view of the term "angel". Most people
I've met in person and online (your experiences may differ, of course)
consider "angel" to be:

Able to use the image, with no limits on number of production, no submission
of work required, no forms to fill out, no outlining EXACTLY what stamps
you're going to use, no putting the name of the company and copyright
information on the card, etc etc.

There are LOTS of companies (not just The Angel Company, but MANY others as
well) that are basically, buy the stamp, use it how you like, hand stamped
only.

The ONE limit I've seen on EVERY company, including ALL the angel companies
I've bought from and worked with: no mechanical reproductions. All items
must be HAND STAMPED only.

I have found that there are enough companies out there that I love that
don't require handstands and jumping through hoops and filing forms that I
simply avoid those that do (PSX, etc). Ü

Thanks for your thoughts Deborah. Ü

psx only requires a letter stating which stamps you will
be using.... no hoops!

they used to however require you to send a sample of everything you were
going to sell..... not true anymore!
just a simple list of stamp #'s no biggie

they are the only co so far that I deal with that requires
that.... darcie's country folk sends you a statement letter
to sign and return.... again no biggie
but most just sent me a letter stating I could use there images for resale
items.. I just keep them with me and
bring them to shows .....incase anyone should ask to
see them.... no one ever has..

I think it was on this newsgroups that this URL was posted as a great list
of angel companies:
http://littlebit.com/angellist.htm

The site is also excellent for other lists, such as convention dates,
companies that sell grab bags or companies that sell unmounteds, etc.
Here's the general URL:
http://littlebit.com/rubber1.htm

And while I'm at it, here's the site I use almost all the time for my
general FAQ's (again, gleaned from this newsgroup at some point in
history):
http://www.intersurf.com/~redstic/Home.htm

Between these websites almost all my rubberstamping queries can be
answered. I keep them bookmarked for quick reference (maybe Pat "Stamp
Savioress" Kight does too!).

Hope that helps,

Rosminah
