I realize there is a FAQ for sewing machine recommendations, and I know
people have posted information on various sewing machines, however, what I
was looking for was specific user comments on the Bernina 1090. I have
researched machines looking for a new one, and decided on the Bernina 1090
particularly because of a few features. The primary one being the presser -
foot knee lift. I am a quilter who does all machine quilting, and would
find this very helpful. I also like the needle up/down control as well.
What I'd like to know is if anyone has bought the 1090 and just loves it, or
if you've bought it and wish you'd gotten something else?

Thanks ... Nancy

I have had a Bernina 1090 for 2 yr. now and I absolutely love it for
exactly the reasons that you mentioned - the knee lift presser foot and
the up-down needle pos. plus other features. I am a quilter and do mostly
machine piecing and some machine quiltly- it does a beautiful job. I like
being able to lock in the reverse button sometimes in mach. quilting. I
felt that I didn't need all the fancy stitches of a more expensive mach.
and this one offered just what I wanted. Good luck. Joyce

Hi,

I'm also looking at the Bernina 1090 as a replacement machine for my
Kenmore. I liked the feature of the knee lift and the computerized
features of having the stitche length/width pre-set for me. It also
seemed extremely easy to change the presser foot. I'm just wondering if
the 1031 (non-computerized) with the knee lift would be just as good?

Hi - My Bernina is also an 1130 and I absolutely love it. If you should see
a used one on sale at a good price it would be one alternative.

Hi!

I've had the Bernina 1031 for a year now and absolutely adore it! I do
commissioned quilts and some work for a interior decorator (pillows,
curtains etc.) as well as quilts for myself, friends and family. I
decided I wanted a non-computerized sewing machine (silly me) and the
knee-lift. I previously worked on a Singer, which I ran into the ground.
So far, this machine has exceeded my expectations. I do not do any fancy
stitches or embroidery so I felt getting a machine with computerized
functions was a bit of overkill. However, I'd probably change my mind
next time I look at one of the computerized machines.

If you want to contact me regarding more info on the Bernina 1031, please

Actually, the 1090 is not known for it's broad selection of decorative
stitches. It's main advantage over the 1031 is that you get the computer
features:
- needle stop up/down, either way you want
- reverse button near the presser foot area
- one touch stitch selection (no futtsing around)
- the computer-pre-selected stitch settings are not always necessary, but
if you happen to rely on them, you can easily return to them after you
override them
- the 1/2 speed is great when you do delicate work and you don't trust
yourself to 'slow down'... like me!

Another consideration is that the 1090 comes with more accessories than the
1031. A few more feet, the sewing table (which btw is solid metal: very
stable) and the storage case. Teh standard 1031 package usually does not
include these (it may in specially bundled deals). So If you add the cost
of the extras provided with the 1090, the price difference is not so great.

When I was shopping for a sewing machine, I thought I was dead set on the
1031, being a mechanical model. After trying the two, I knew the 1090 was
what I wanted. Have fun!

She is looking at a Bernina 1090.

Two years ago I bought a 1030 with the knee lifter. I LOVE IT! I have
been sewing for 35 years and decided to spring for the best when it looked
like I was going to keep it up!

I do mainly quilting and bought this because my NELCO wouldn't machine
quilt without breaking needles. So...I do patchwork, machine quilting,
and the occasional clothing. My clothing is exquisite--no more puckers,
etc. I never knew I sewed so well. I definitely would get one with a
knee lifter. You will love any Bernina you buy.
