I am in the process of finishing my first sampler quilt and want to begin collecting
fabric for a 21"x 21" watercolor panel for an AIDS name project quilt that I have
volunteered to put together. So my question to this group is how do people obtain
hundreds of 2" pieces of fabric for watercolor quilts? Are there groups who mail
fabric to one another? By the way, I will be taking a class from one of my local
quilting stores here in the San Francisco Bay Area next month and will probably
get this information then, but I am anxious to get started and do not want to wait.

Brad -

When I took the Watercolor quilt class last winter the store (Whiffle
Tree Quilts, Cupertino, CA) sold kits (200 2x2" squares for $8).
The kit had a good mixture of colors.
Keepsake Quilting also sold packages of 2x2 squares although I
recall someone saying that their wasn't a real good mixture of
colors.

You might want to call a couple of your local quilt stores & see if they sell
pre-cut squares.

Hi Brad,
I had a robin of 2" SQUARES going for awhile, but it got lost or bogged
down. There is someone on Delphi - Custom 220 who runs a swap of 6in.
squares that can be cut into 2" squares. If you don't have access to that
forum let me know and I will try to E you the proper addresses.

I know you can get good ones at Quilt In A Day in San Marcos (619) 591-0929
I think. I know they do mail order so maybe they'll send you one. I can't
remember how many squares were in it, I think they're 6" squares though. They
also have color coordinated fabrics in kits austensibly for vests but I find
them useful for wallhangings too.

Yes;

and while I wish there was no need for the AIDS Quilt Project, I think it's
good of you to do one. :)

There are several mail order places that sell die-cut 2" inch squares...
possibly Keepsake Quilting; I would suggest you check the FAQ ASAP for the
other various addresses...

Send me a snail address and I'd be happy to send you an assortment. The idea
is to accumulate enough variety to get your quilt to flow together in the
watercolor design you're creating. And one more thing- remember they're going
to be 1.5 x 1.5 inches square when you're done. :)

I ordered a set of 100 2" squares from Quilts and Other Comforts...they
are very nice, and cost about ten bucks.
