I'm looking for advice on the best small portable sewing machine, and
figured quilters would probably know this better than any other group. I"m
not confining myself to looking only for a new machine, opinions on past
machines are welcome, too. I'm looking for absolute top quality and
reliability in a small package. I realize that the small machines can never
have as many features as the larger ones, but the more the better. And I'm
not necessarily interested in computerized models, which is a probably a
moot point with small machines anyway.

Would also like to know models to avoid!

Many thanks for your help. I prefer an answer via email, rather than in the
newsgroup, as I get here only seldom.

I have an Omega Sew & Go. It's about 10" x 12" x 6", comes in a soft
plastic cover ie, no case, but has a small carrying compartment in part of the
arm for extra bobbins, needles, etc. It goes forward and back, and zig-zag. I
bought it about 5 yrs ago for about $400 Cdn$ intending to use it for the
occaisional mending job, and to sew clothes once or twice a year. Then I got
into quilting. So far I've made 10 full sized quilts on it and it's going strong
with no problems.
