About Us

Green Thumb, Inc., is a national nonprofit organization best known as America’s leader in the field of older worker training and employment. A unique feature of the Geezer.com website is that it opens e-commerce opportunities to seniors who do not have computers or Internet access. Green Thumb’s customer support center, staffed by older workers, will facilitate orders for “non-wired” vendors and open a previously unobtainable market for their products. Conversely, Internet shoppers will find many terrific products exclusively at Geezer.com. The Geezer project is being funded in part by the U.S. Department of Labor, which is supporting the customer service center.

Geezer.com Mission
This e-commerce site will create a community on the Internet that provides older individuals with a vital worldwide market for their unique handcrafted goods. Geezer.com customers will tap into a source of quality gifts and apparel while supporting senior American artists and crafters.

Through Geezer.com, Green Thumb will change negative stereotypes about aging; promote economic development, particularly in rural areas; encourage seniors to embrace new technology; and provide them with the training and technological assistance they need to supplement their incomes, start new businesses, and grow existing ones.

Why the name “Geezer?”
The word geezer, from Middle English, referred originally to a guiser – a costumed merrymaker or masquerader. The name was the choice of older workers who participated in focus groups around the country. They felt Geezer.com was catchy and would help Internet shoppers remember our site name.

We invite you to help us change negative stereotypes about aging and improve the lives of senior crafters across the country by spreading the word about Geezer.com. Talented quilters, potters, photographers, and jewelers often “masquerade” as teachers aides, office assistants, farmers, and grandparents.

Senior crafters produce amazing works of art that only lucky community members have a chance to view or purchase. Through Geezer.com, older artisans in every corner of our country will achieve recognition as well as much needed income from their hobbies and avocations-from the duck decoy carvers of the east to the doll-makers of the west, the calligraphers of the north, and the Christmas crafters of the south.
