I'm sorry to cross post this to so many groups but all of the groups
I've posted it in, and more, would be interested in this site, I think.
(I don't want to miss you) There's a craft website bigger than anything
I've seen (other than maybe Amazon or Ebay) that has been made by a
non-profit organization called Green Thumb, Inc. They help seniors to
get job training... the seniors can work in non-profit agencies as they
train, getting paid then get jobs.
Anyway, they came up with the idea that many mature folks also already
have many great skills. They often make a great variety of hand-crafted
products. The website is called Geezer.com. It's a sort of play on
words... from the brochure it looks like they're trying to change the
"definition" of the word Geezer. I guess it's supposed to be a term
that will bring people to the site out of curiosity if nothing else.
The crafters on the site are anything But "Geezers" in the way most
people think of the term.
There are over 1000 hand-made products on the site right now. Looks
like the site isn't very fast sometimes, but that's because some
categories have so many items in it that the little thumbnail images and
short descriptions take awhile to load. If you click on the thumbnails
or short descriptions you can go to the a page where with a larger
picture of the product. You can also go to a biography page on the
seller.
People can sign up to sell their crafts there too.
Geezer.com goes one step further than most places that only put the
buyer and seller in contact with one another. They use TradeSafe.
There's a shopping cart, and everything, and they contact the vendor for
you. They use TradeSafe to charge the buyer's credit card, and money
gets sent to the seller via check or direct deposit. The transactions
are guaranteed by TradeSafe.com.
I'm sorry if someone thinks of this as spam! I work for Green Thumb,
yes, but we ARE non-profit and I've just been so excited about this
site... and so disappointed that more people haven't found out about
it. We can't seem to get the site up into the top items in the search
engines, but like I said, I think it's the best place out there for
quality and variety!!
