Can anyone answer me why Art Transparent 00 is so difficult to obtain. Are
our North American distributors not ordering or is Eberhard Faber not
able to supply.

The Canadaian importer when contacted by my local craft shop said 18
blocks were on order and would only be arriving in mid November. This to
me me seems like a ridiculous amount.

At the workshop I took on the weekend with Tory Hughes she said it is very
difficult to obtain even in the US - Something is wrong.

Maybe if we started e-mailing Eberhard Faber we would get an answer. I
checked and they do have an e-mail address.

Also does anyone know the distributor for Promat in Canada - I beleive
they are located in Ottawa.

Thanks in advance

Norma

I stock art translucent 00 in reasonable quantities. I then cut and sell
2-oz blocks, wrapped in wax-paper inside polybags. I don't want to break
netiquette here, so anyone who wants more info can email me at
gay...@aol.com. Thanks.

Here's the story I heard (mostly from Tory Hughes with input from other
sources since) about art translucent 00 Fimo.

It was the original tranlucent clay, but it bakes at a lower temp than the
other colors of Fimo, so European customers (the only ones who count with
Eberhard-Faber, it would seem) complained and they discontinued the product
entirely and replaced it with transparent/opaque which bakes at the normal
temps but doesn't pebble. Well, Tory and many others had come to rely on the
pebbling for faux effects, and they made much hue and cry and eventually
Eberhard-Faber decided to re-introduce the material FOR the artist market
ONLY (since it still needs a different temp and that troubles the hobby
market) so now it is only sold in bricks (12 oz.), is marked "ART"
translucent, and is not part of the normal range of colors that fit into the
little display racks all the stores like to get. I'm sure most distributors
don't even know it exists, probably think the transparent/opaque is the same
thing. I mail order mine, nowadays usually from Wee Folk. I doubt it will ever
be found in the little 2 oz. packs or in any craft sources that sell from
those rack displays, only. (One thing to remember is that the people selling
this stuff haven't got a CLUE what it's good for most of the time. They would
NEVER run out of oil or acrylic paint in basic colors like they regularly do
with poly clay! A goal we all might think about is educating the stores we
shop at about this fact -- MIGHT help! Take in samples or pictures, offer to
teach workshops (for pay!!) or whatever it takes, and get the buyers to see
the importance of fresh, full stocking.)(And of having art translucent!)
