I fancy having a go at painting mirror tiles, so that they can be
displayed as little pictures in the bathroom etc. I have not actually
seen any smaller ones for sale, so where can I get them and does
anyone know whether you can stick a hook on the back rather than
sticking them to the wall with sticky pads.

Any other advice gratefully accepted - I dabble a little with glass
pinting on clip frames.

I've seen various sized mirror blanks at the local Michael's Craft Store.
Since you are in the UK you may not have that chain of stores available to
you, but you may well be able to find what you are looking for in a similar
large craft store.

It would help if you'd define better what
you are looking for - exact sizes? If by
"mirror tiles" you mean the kind that are
sometimes used to create mirrored walls,
I would think any glass supply outlet (what
are they called in the UK?) would handle
them. In the USA, "mirror tiles" come boxed
a dozen or so to the box and are about
ten or twelve inches square. They're available
from most builder suppliers and glass dealers.

You can order the size you want from you local glazier.
If you go for the hook option, make sure that you secure the hanger firmly,
or else you'll have glass all over the floor.
Painting on mirrors is easy. Remember to clean the surface thoroughly first.

I imgine that Focus or similar who have what you want - either in their
'craft' section or on the DIY side. Check out car boot sales and charity
shops too - particularly for your test pieces.

A hook may be risky. I would be inclined to cut a length of thin wire or
twine for a hanging loop and sandwich it between the back of the mirror and
some mountcard or backing board - securely glued of course or you could
have 7 years bad luck <g>

Unless you are going to draw your outline freehand you may want to transfer
the pattern onto the mirror using carbon paper - use a ball point pen rather
than a thick pencil to trace with, then the outliner should cover the blue
marks easily.

Thanks Jenni, sounds like a good idea, I shall give it a try. I
actually belong to the WI markets (I am one of the younger ones!) and
like to put a few other bits on the stall apart from my cards. We
have a monthly farmers market on a Saturday as well and the customers
are a but different to those during the week.

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for your advice, I shall have to go round some DIY shops first
and if not will try a glazier.

What should I be cleaning the glass with, should it be spirit based,
or just soapy water?

Weak washing up liquid and water. Then rinse, rinse and rinse again. Any
grease will make it more difficult for the paint to adhere. Good luck with
the projects.
You could always book in on one of our specialty courses. *g*
