Not on usenet, but you can find various web sites
that cater to the specialties. Look for the
"pastel society" and "watercolour society" web
sites in the UK. I know the USA societies
have web sites. You can try posting to rec.arts.fine
if you have a strong stomach for negativism. It's
a 'general purpose' usenet group that might give
you a run for your money but more likely will
run you off with their acerbism.
I couldn't get this page to open but you might
have better luck:
http://www.pastelsociety.org.uk/
The watercolour web site did open for me:
http://www.royalwatercoloursociety.com/
http://www.cheapjoescatalog.com/cjas/index.asp
I have no connection whatsoever with this web site except that I
occasionally enjoy exchanging tips, hints (and complaints) with
like-minded people. It's a friendly place that includes a multitude
of media. It is not limited to pastels. (Oils, watercolors,
acrylics, pastels, ink, etc.) The best part--it's free.
