Two wingers were digging a ditch in the hot sun.

One finally looks at the other and asks "Say why do we have to stay out in the
heat and dig this damn ditch"?

The other winger says "Why don't you go and ask the foreman?"
So he does.

"My buddy asks why we are the only ones out in the heat digging this ditch and
you always sitting in the shade drinking that cold drink"?

The foreman says "Winger, grab your shovel and meet me over here at this tree
and I'll be happy to show you why".

So he gets his shovel and goes over to where the foreman is standing.

The foreman tells the winger "Winger, put your hand on this tree and hand me
that shovel. Do not remove your hand from this tree no matter what. OK?"

The winger puts his hand on the tree and says "OK I won't move".

The foreman then takes the shovel and swings it as hard as he can and almost
completely smashes the winger's hand.

Now the foreman puts his hand on the tree and gives the shovel back to the
winger and says "Go ahead; I know you want to, hit my hand as hard as you can".

The winger hauls off and swings the shovel with all of his might.

Just as the shovel gets near his hand the foreman moves it and the shovel hits
the tree.

"Now winger" says the foreman "do you understand why I'm in the shade and you
and that other winger are in the ditch"?

The winger says "Yes, I think so".

So back in the ditch he goes.

The other winger's curiosity is killing him so he asks "What did the foreman
say about your question"?

"I don't know how to explain it" says the winger whose hand is still in bad
pain.

Well, the other one keeps bugging him until finally he says "Okay, I'll show
you what he said." He then puts his hand in front of his face and tells the
other winger "Take your shovel and hit my hand as hard as you can."

Joe the Plumber?

When asked, years afterward, why his charge at Gettysburg failed,
General Pickett replied: "I've always thought the Yankees had something
to do with it."

This is very old, when I first heard it black people were digging the ditch.
Must have been 30 years ago. Some people have nothing better to do.

Plumbers wear white shirts.
