"I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the
means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not
making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of
it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different
countries, that the more public provisions were made for the
poor the less they provided for themselves, and of course became
poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the
more they did for themselves, and became richer." -- Benjamin
Franklin, /The Encouragement of Idleness/, 1766

Bambi is Bambi, what more can one say

"The Remissness of our People in Paying Taxes is highly
blameable; the Unwillingness to pay them is still more
so. I see, in some Resolutions of Town Meetings, a
Remonstrance against giving Congress a Power to take,
as they call it, the People's Money out of their Pockets,
tho' only to pay the Interest and Principal of Debts
duly contracted. They seem to mistake the Point. Money,
justly due from the People, is their Creditors' Money,
and no longer the Money of the People, who, if they
withold it, should be compell'd to pay by some Law.

All property, indeed, except the savage's temporary cabin,
his bow, his matchcoat and other little Acquisitions
absolutely necessary for his Subsistence, seems to me to be
the creature of public Convention. Hence, the public has the
rights of regulating Descents, and all other Conveyances of
Property, and even of limiting the quantity and uses of it.
All the property that is necessary to a man is his natural
Right, which none may justly deprive him of, but all Property
superfluous to such Purposes is the property of the Public
who, by their Laws have created it and who may, by other
Laws dispose of it, whenever the Welfare of the Publick shall
demand such Disposition. He that does not like civil Society
on these Terms, let him retire and live among Savages. He
can have no right to the benefits of Society, who will not
pay his Club towards the Support of it."
Benjamin Franklin to Robert Morris

SVL has more pure mechanical talent than you will ever have and has
forgotten more than you will ever know.

SVL worked for Boeing for years and machined parts you will never in
your life be able to machine.

Unlike you, SVL can think for himself and doesn't need to be told by
others what I do or don't know. You, on the other hand, will never
have a clue because you can't think for yourself and must rely on
slimeballs like Tom Brewer, etc. to do your thinking for you as well
as work to keep you semi-employed.

We were looking for a dog at a shelter after losing our Lab/Rott mix. We
went to six shelters from San Pedro to Pomona using our TomTom. What a
help! I would still be looking for it on a map. I would suggest a cheap
TomTom to anyone who wants a very simple GPS for the car.

On that, you Californians have a lot of hoopla over adopting dogs. It takes
more paperwork and falderal to adopt a pooch than to get a job in
California. We found a beautiful alert friendly White Scotty terrier mix,
long legged. Just a sweet female about a year old. Said she had not been
there long enough to be adopted out, and that we had to have her spayed
before they would release her. She'd be ready in about a week. No way
could we talk them into letting us take her with Utah ID.

Same story on several other dogs. Lots of people filling out paperwork, but
few walking dogs out. Lots of "come back next Thursday" stuff.

So, we drive to LV, and stay at one of our vacation rentals. We go to the
pound, and find a nice smallish terrier mix, just a bundle of energy and a
loveable dog. She's been there four days, and in that time, she'd been
spayed, chipped, shots, and was ready to go out the door. Paid the man, and
took our dog.

Unlike California, no background FBI or AFIS check, no personality profile
to fill out, got two free bags of dog food. Dog got home and immediately
flew around the house a couple of times to check it out, sniffed the other
dog's butt, and looked happy.

Why is it that it is easier to get on welfare on California than it is for
two old farts with money and documentation to get a dog?

And why don't they just simplify the millions of signs they have all over
the place to: WARNING - LIVING IN CALIFORNIA CAN GIVE YOU CANCER OR DRIVE
YOU NUTS! ?
