Snicker. You can't read the whole article but just the teaser bit is
enough to make a lot of RCMers uncomfortable. I have to laugh when I
see people who write "Never throw anything away!" What a crock. I used
to live that way. I woke up to reality one day when I almost got killed
stopping my car on a busy urban freeway to pick up a piece of metal that
had fallen off a truck. BTW, I did get the metal, took it home, where it
rusted in my driveway for 5 years until I sold that house, when I had to
take it to the dump and pay. How dumb was that? Fill my driveway with
junk and then pay to haul it away. Woke me up, it did.

There's a real good book called "Clutter Control". My boss gave it to me
back in 1993. I read it and slowly and painfully have been uncluttering
my life and my shop.

USE IT OR LOSE IT. PERIOD.

I've got an old Oesterlein #3 tool and cutter grinder sitting in front of my
garage under a tarp. A little rusty and bad heavy. 3 phase, no tooling.
Free to a good home. About 45 miles northeast of Charlotte, NC.
Somebody_please_come and take it. There's some marital discord brewing over
this thing.

Let us not rush to judgement too quickly here. There is a real
difference between "hoarding" and the simple misoverestimation of the
future usefulness of physical entities -

Man, that must be nice to have all that space. I'm forever passing up a
deal on some old and still useful dinosaur of a machine tool because I just
don't have any more room.

Yeah, that's it.. misoverestimation. If it's fatal (as in some of the
article examples), it must be a disease, or could be deemed so by the FDA.

We need a cure, we need research. This calls for a comittee (quite possibly
many of them) to investigate.
If we could just spare the life of one good scrounger..

Seems like most of my junk mail is from politicians wanting money. Ban
politicians.

Didn't know about them, Rusty. Where were they advertised? I've had my
days off changed to wed./thur. now and won't be able to make it, though.
Any of the ones I can go to, I usually show up. You want this heavy old
grinder sitting in front of my garage? Yours for the taking.
