I tried to make detail of the data plate in the one photo I have, it looks like 1800 but I
would not swear to it.

I'll try to remember to bring home a mirror to see if I can view the data plate tomorrow.
Why are you wondering if I may be as bold to ask?
Thanks Wes.
I am just thinking about the lathe, a possibility that the hydraulic
drive has issues, and VFD conversion. I have a 5 HP inverter duty
motor.

I'm ordering one of those. I'm not totally sure how close my hydraulic speed lever
graduations matches actual speed.
Iggy, sorry, forgot the mirror tonight. I also owe you a measurement on the 4 1/2T to 5C
adaptor. I'll do it tomorrow.
Wes, no problem, I did not want to make trouble, just to find out if
you already know.

Did a google search, ordered this one from Amazon.
It was cheaper. I picked free shipping so it will be about 10 days before I can give a
report.

I sent a email to work to remind me tomorrow to bring home the mirror. It is not a
problem.

I checked the motor data plate. 1800 rpm.
On that adaptor, I measured mine, the one I pointed you to matches his
numbers within the limitations of measuring with calipers.

Thanks a lot Wes, I asked the seller what is on the inside of this. I
hop ethat it is what I need. Great find. Thanks a lot.

Glad to help out.
Wes
He told me it is a 5C collet adaptor. (which kind of is what the
auction says :)
I would need a collet closer to use it.
i
You make one :)

If you do a lot of small diameter works, collets are great.
I have a chunk of 6061 aluminum here on my desk, I need to make the nose protector /
adaptor sleeve extractor next. This should be fun. Get to turn 3 3/4-6 threads, cut a
3 1/2" taper per foot id taper and then cut a .375 keyway using the lathe.
Dimensions for L series chucks can be found at one of my websites here:
http://www.garage-machinist.com/manuals/Collets_and_tapers/L_Series/index.html
Now I may have misread your 4.5MT to center thread. You can take a piece of round stock,
chucked up in a collet, cut a 60 degree taper on it and still screw a driver plate for al
lathe dog on your L-00 spindle. Best of both worlds.
Wes
Do you recall what your lathe weighs?

Yes, you do want to make sure it is a good one.

No, I don't. I brought it home on a 5x8 utility trailer that is under 2000 GVWR. You
have an additional 18" of bed over my lathe. I'd guestimate mine at 1500 lbs.

If you compare tire squat between the lathe and the mill base, it looks like a fairly
similar load.

Hey again Wes,
I'll try that, (the mdns) but if it doesn't go, no biggy but I'm off
for Cabin Fever first thing Wednesday. Back in March.

It worked. It was pretty funny though you may have reinforced a sterotype <VBG>. Hope
the show is a good one.

Well, it made it in yesterday on a day I was taking the first half of the day off. Darn
post office counter closes now at 4:00pm and I can't make it there in time due to a bridge
closure.
Anyway, I stuck a piece of reflective tape on my Clausing 6903's chuck and took readings.
I was pretty happy to see the graduations on the hydraulic speed change lever matched the
rpm readings with in a couple percent. That was in high range.
I had to get close to it because the chuck was fairly reflective and confused it at
distance. Maybe tomorrow I'll test the bridgeport.
