I am replacing a few panels of 'good neighbor' fence for a pal.
So I bought four of these:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=43569

With cutting and grinding (and gluing) I transformed them into a
bipod that supports the end of the fence top rail in alignment with
the witness line. By twisting each tube, I can 'dial in' the
placement of the end of the rail quickly and accurately.

A plumb bob attached to the center of the top rail hovers an inch
over the exact center of the best place to dig the post hole.

(No Measuring Necessary!)

The pictures I have are both ~90 kB and lose too much resolution
when I try to push them below the 50 kB limit for the dropbox, so
I will be happy to eMail them to anyone interested.

Cool.

Send the full-rez pics (not the 90kb crap) and I'll dial 'em down
right for you, Win. I did that for a living once.

Thanks for questioning that, Joe.

In researching my answer to you, I discovered that I had
sent my earlier posting request to the wrong
address. No wonder it didn't get posted!

The picture for that one is 89 KB, so I've resubmitted it as
an experiment to see if it gets by the gatekeeper.

If it does, I'll post the fence jig pictures as well.

Emboldened by Joe Gwinn's observation, I uploaded smaller versions
of the pictures to the dropbox:
