I'm looking for a way to get a bright, clean finish on
copper via chemical means. Does anyone have a recipe for a
bright dip that works well with copper? Is there a
commercially available copper bright dip? Alternatively,
does anyone have a recipe for an electropolishing solution
that works well with copper? Thanks.

Bert

There are two differnt basic bright dips for copper. One is chromic acid
which should be avoided because it is extremely toxic and dangerous.

I have a copper bright dip that uses sulferic acid and hydrogen peroxide as
well as a proprietary cleaning additive. A mild acid dip is used afterwards
to desmut the copper.

I usually sell it to make 5 gallon quantities.

I will have to check on a price at the office tommorow. It is not expensive.

Bright dip will polish copper somewhat so you may not need an electropolish.

Lemon juice (okay, it's commercially available in the grocery store)
and catsup (same) both work for copper.

Lemon juice (citric acid) or katsup (acetic acid)will not give you a BRIGHT
dip for copper. Nitric acid will.
